KELI RAVEN'S LATEST INTERVIEW WITH "JUNIORS CAVE ONLINE MAGAZINE"

Published: June 05, 2009 11:16 PM EST By: Isaac Davis Jr., MBA (Juniorscave.com) New Music Spotlight June 2009 Edition Keli Raven Remember the excitement when you heard the 80's band Living Colour. The popular 80's rock group was a fan favorite especially for those African-Americans' artists and fans who like Living Colour are huge fans of the genre of Rock. Another superstar is carving his own niche in the music industry with his take of rock music. Keli Raven is breaking stereotypes and turning heads with his fantastic hardcore rock sound that will please any rock music lover. In this recent spotlight with our magazine, the rocker comes clean about being an African-American rock-n-roll star. Isaac: Let's discuss your beginnings. Elaborate a little about your background and upbringing. KR: I was raised in NYC.Dad was a musician and Mom was a dancer, we were close knit, supportive and hard working… Isaac: Have you always wanted to be an entertainer or do you have a hidden passion? KR: I have always wanted to entertain, it's in my genes…my parents met while working the 'chittlin' circuit with various artist like James Brown, Wilson Pickett, and the like….Popular musician jam sessions were also a regular event in what I call 'normal childhood'. Isaac: What do your family and friends think about what you are doing? KR: My family and my friends have always supported me… from day one. Isaac: What has been the biggest hurdle that you have had to overcome in the music industry? KR: In my early days… being a Black rock artist, creating what I believe in…rock n roll, and being told by the 'suits' in this industry that my music was not black enough. Rock 'n' Roll is what I do….It is who I am; it has helped me create longevity, which has not been easy. Isaac: What do you feel has been your biggest reward since you decided to become an entertainer? KR: Being able to express my artistic freedom and bring smiles and personal pleasure to someone, especially when reaching kids…it just makes you feel good. Isaac: What do you think you will bring to the music industry that has not been done before? KR: I believe that you can only re-invent, like everything, it's all been done before, but with different flavors, different materials, and different blends of people. Although I can't really say, that's up to the fans to decide. I can't limit my music to stigmas or labels. Isaac: For those new fans who are about to listen to your music for the first time, how would you describe your music to them? KR: Marylyn Manson slowing down long enough to hear Rascal Flats jamming with The Beatles at a Michael Jackson recording session. Isaac: What do you feel will be your biggest contribution to the music industry? KR: I hope to get into a position that will enable me to give back…to teach a kid music, to support charities that will feed our children and keep them healthy while healing the earth. I think everything is getting a bit too technical. Isaac: Where can fans locate you online and what can we expect from you in 2009/2010? KR: Well, technology will allow them to find me at: www.keliraven.com or at www.myspace.com/keliraven. As to what can be expected of me…touring a bit to promote my latest CD (IN FANTASY)…Writing, spending some time with my folks and fans….generally enjoying life and playing music… Isaac: Give shouts outs to your family, friends, and fans.... KR: Yes…I'd like to give a shout outs to…My BGFF Cindy…My BFF's Lemmy, John and Sandro…My sisters…Bea, Jinary and Sharon, the kids… Jessica and Justyce, Mom and Dad…. and all my kick-ass fans….. Isaac: Final thoughts from Keli Raven.... KR: If you truly believe in something, don't stray from it, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it…follow your dreams….for me it's the music….
