The Hawkeyes to turn Heads

"From what I've heard from the @TheHawkeyes EP they're gonna turn some heads!" - Johnny Edlin Tweet

Thanks Johnny! We think so too. In fact, we have all been listening to the new tracks from the upcoming disc, Goodbye Americana, and couldn't be happier. Pete Drivere & The Hawkeyes outdid themselves on this one - I'm going out on a limb here to say that I think this will be one of those albums that is remembered 20yrs from now as being the one that launched a career much like Bruce Springsteen's 'Nebraska' or John Mellencamp's 'American Fool'

Hints of Neil Young, The Who, Lucero, Drive By Trucker, The Rolling Stones, Jack White, and more - from straight up rock to Americana to Country - this disc has it all - this disc will prove to everyone that the Hawkeyes have arrived! ~ Bob Lung / Director of Operations / Broad Horizon Records, Inc.

THE HAWKEYES to play ROCKLAHOMA 2012 Cincinnati, Ohio — March 19, 2012

Broad Horizon Records, Inc. is pleased to present The Hawkeyes at Rocklahoma.

The Hawkeyes of Pittsburgh PA were selected to play THE AXIS ENTERTAINMENT STAGE Memorial Day weekend in Oklahoma along with CHICKENFOOT, CREED, Rob Zombie, more.

Having completed two tours of the Mid West in support of their debut E.P. (Summer/Fall 2011) and opening gigs for Lukas Nelson (Hard Rock Cafe) and Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Trib Toal Media Amphitheater) The Hawkeyes are excited to be part of one of the nation's biggest festivals.

ROCKLAHOMA is an annual hard rock music festival held in Pryor, Oklahoma since 2007.

In 2010 the festival was moved to Memorial Day weekend and included more current artists as well as a few of the 1980s-era classic rock and metal bands for which the festival has been known.Since then the festival has included more modern heavy hitters and with the addition of THE AXIS ENTERTAINMENT STAGE, up n coming artists as well.

The Hawkeyes will be taking the Axis Entertainment Stage Sunday, May 27, 2012.

Alt country Indie Garage Rock, The Hawkeyes draw comparisons to Lucero, Drive By Truckers, Mellencamp, Springsteen, Black Crowes, and a cross between Neil Young & The Rolling Stones, but are a sound unto themselves. Raspy vocals cut across melodies and hooks, telling stories of a world populated by meth addled truck drivers, has been barflies, and wannabees exposing those not so secret secrets you find in any burnt out, boarded up small town across America today. They tend to write songs with an anarchic sensibility, biting humor, and just the right mix of irony & sincerity. Seeking a little redemption, The Hawkeyes half true songs of love and excess show a little more than the tattered edges of your average rock band today.

Featuring Jay Wiley, Bob Pickman, Brian Chalmers, and Colin Bronnenkant THE HAWKEYES are fast becoming Pittsburgh PAs most talked about export in years THE HAWKEYES debut E.P. featured the single Double E which gained modest airplay on college / AAA radio and is being considered for a major motion picture THE HAWKEYES were invited to play the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg PA Feb. 2012 and their single, Double E was included on the compilation CD Project Currently in the studio putting finishing touches on their full length release with producer Pete Drivere (Ampereon Recorder) THE HAWKEYES are gearing up for their Spring Tour including ROCKLAHOMA Look for the first single Hey Ricky to hit radio May 29, 2012 with video following

Pittsburgh City Paper

Thanks to Margaret Welsh at The Pittsburgh City Paper for the CD review! This is what she had to say "The Hawkeyes frequently compare themselves to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, but on this four-song EP, the apparently hard-drinkin' alt-country Americana outfit falls somewhere between Copperhead Road-era Steve Earle and Lost Highway-era Bon Jovi. But, er, a little closer to the Bon Jovi side".

fall tour 2011 - little late

ok, so we were supposed to "blog" at the beginning of the tour and, well.....we forgot, had this whole driving, setting up, eating, playing music, networking, selling merch, touring thing going on, so excuse us for not blogging on time

here goes a quick rundown of what's happened thus far: 10/14/11 at Yellow Springs OH - Peach's Grille nice little roadhouse with a great stage, would say the crowd was attentive but a bit unsure at first of how to "take" the rock show we gave - the Northern Skies were very very good and very much more acoustic than we were whcih explained the at first mixed crowd reaction - we won them over with our witty stage banter

10/15/11 at Pirates Den in Lawrenceburg IN this place is considered a Cincinnati venue and yes there was at least two boo birds when we announced we were from Pittsburgh - ya know because we always wear our big ben jerseys on stage n'at, good crowd estimated 300 people, sold some merch, made the label happy and did the usual happy crash landing ending which opened some eyes....we think

10/16/11 Loudhouse Coffee - Nashville TN the mexican restaurant nearby was excellent

10/17/11 Nashville - day off loved Robert's Western World and the kick ass band of old players from Loretta Lynn's band

10/18/11 The End - Nashville TN great time, okay crowd, good merch sales, our friends and other band on bill Ned Van Go was AWESOME as we expected, good vibes, best Nashville show to date and Vanderbilit was on break too - we'll be back for a weekend...you watch

10/19/11 Caledonia Lounge - Athens GA what can we say - we LOVE this town, everybody loves music, original music and they really like a good rock show, seems like they mostly get bluesy or very traditional style bands and they welcome wholeheartedly a few yanks from Pittsburgh who like to crank the electric guitars up, scream into the mics, sweat their ass off and play songs about the rustbelt - got great feedback from the folks there, Betsy Franck & the Bareknuckle Band was great and as was Abby Owens - can't wait to come back here again

heading to Winston Salem tomorrow to play one of our favorite venues The Garage - we're expecting a pretty big crowd as well

well, there's an update of what we've done so far on our fall tour, in plain english......talk you folks soon

jay

So this is blog

the first entry is crucial.....so that's why I'll just allow myself to not say anything stupid at the moment

...want to see some you folks at Howler's this Friday Sept 16th - we're opening for St Louis' Kentucky Knife Fight - www.kentuckyknifefight.net - 10pm

...and we are back at the famous Keystone Bar in Ellwood City PA which has housed such great bands as The Codetalkers, Jill West & Blues Attack, Alisium, 28 North, and Billy the Kid to name a few - that's at 930pm this Sat Sept 17th

so there is one blog entry, expect more, hopefully
