Ok, so we haven’t even celebrated Thanksgiving yet, but it’s never too early to get pumped about the holidays. And it’s not about getting presents or time off from school or work either (Although all that never hurts). This year, Room 24 is extra excited about participating in two of Austin’s most favorite holiday traditions. First, we’ll be playing our take on some well-known holiday music in Chuy’s Christmas Parade on November 29 (while riding on a float we’re designing ourselves). The parade starts at 11:00 am. Then we’re keeping the holiday spirit going when we play The Trail of Lights 50th Celebration Grand Opening on December 7. The trail opens at 7:00 pm; we go on at 8:00. It’s all waiting for you – Floats, balloons, and the Operation Blue Santa trucks at the Chuy’s Parade, happy to accept your toy donations. Over-the-top light displays, the Zilker tree to spin under ‘til you’re dizzy, and as much kettle corn and hot chocolate you can gorge yourself on at The Trail of Lights. Yep, all of Austin will be celebrating the holidays like only Austin can. Hope you come on out and join us in getting into the holiday spirit! Find out more info about Chuy’s Christmas Parade benefiting Operation Blue Santa here http://www.chuysparade.com/ and The Trail of Lights here http://austintrailoflights.org/. Room 24 Andy, James, and Michael P.S. We’re also celebrating the season by giving something new and exclusive to everyone on our email list which we’ll make available on December 21. If you haven’t joined our email list yet, do it now at www.Room24Band.com!
It’s been a while since we posted, but no worries - We’re here! We’ve gone through some changes though. Room 24 is currently performing as a 2-piece (guitar and drums), but we’ll be adding a bass player before too long. (We definitely won’t miss posting about that!) And here’s something else we’re having some fun with – We’ve added an acoustic set. Of course, we’re all about our amplified, alternative rock sound, but doing some acoustic music has been a lot of creative fun, so don’t be surprised when you catch us playing an acoustic set here and there. In fact, we’ll be doing acoustic when we do our first, live webcast performance on Sunday, June 29 at 7:00pm CDT as part of The Austin Invasion Showcase series. If you can, join us as we stream live from Cuppa Austin, 9225 W. Parmer Lane, Austin 78717. If you can’t make it, you don’t have to miss us – You can watch the show from your computer, tablet, or phone at the following url - https://www.concertwindow.com/shows/7101-austin-invasion-room-24 So, yes, it seems change is the one constant, but fortunately, it’s all good.
Austin is a great city. It's great for its live music, of course, but it's proving itself to be a great city in its response to tragedy. Memories of what should have been yet another year of inspired SXSW music and fun are now forever scarred by the drunk driving tragedy outside of The Mohawk on March 13.
Almost immediately in response, SXSWCares pulled together and has so far reportedly raised nearly $200,000 to aid victims of the tragedy and their families. And as no surprise, many of the fundraising efforts have come from Austin's live music community.
From April 12 - 20, a community-wide fundraiser, "SXSWCares Big Benefit," will host shows at various live music venues around Austin as well as a silent auction to help bring in donations to SXSWCares.
Room 24 is proud to be able to help in this response to the SXSW drunk driving tragedy. We'll be playing a set for one of the SXSWCares Big Benefit shows at Red 7, 611 E. 7th Street, on April 14. All money from ticket sales for the show will go to SXSWCares, so we're hoping lots of people will come out to hear us and the other great bands playing that night - Space Vampire, Residual Kid, Carl Sagan's Skate Shoes, Hired Goons, and The Stand Alones.
But we're committed to doing more - After the fundraiser at Red 7, we're playing another, albeit non-fundraiser, show still during the period that the SXSWCares Big Benefit fundraiser is going on, which we figured we'd go ahead and turn into its own fundraiser to benefit SXSWCares.
So... For every guest who comes to the Room 24 show at Red Eyed Fly, 715 Red River, on April 19, Room 24 will donate $5 directly to SXSWCares!
Please help us help SXSWCares. Thanks.
Since the gear we use is just so basic to what we do, we've been talking for a while now about sharing a little on what gear we use and why. One piece of gear might be a favorite for a specific reason, but then another piece might be a favorite..."just because." We're always up for checking out new stuff though. Not only because it's part of the fun we have playing music, but also because you never know when you'll come across a NEW favorite. So anyway, gear videos coming up.
This Saturday, we're taking our act just a little beyond our regular stomping grounds. We'll be playing at Harmony Sweet in New Braunfels. The all-ages show starts at 6pm, doors open at 5:30. Several other bands are on the bill, so it'll be a full night of good music to enjoy.
Harmony Sweet - 2405 Lifehaus Industrial Drive, #213, New Braunfels, TX. $10 cover
The Amplify Austin fundraising drive is underway, and Room 24 was excited to donate to HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) in honor of Brian Lee Sebastian - Drummer, Mentor, and Teacher extraordinaire. There's still time left to give where you live - tinyurl.com/klop3he
Had a great time yesterday at The Sahara Lounge with the Austin Opportunity Youth Collaborative showcase. We went on with a lot of really talented youth acts!
It was also great to find out yesterday that we were voted #9 "Best U18 Band" in The Austin Chronicle Music Poll this year. Thanks to everyone who voted - You're awesome!! http://www.austinchronicle.com/Awards/MusicAwards/?mode=browse&category=Best%2520Performing%2520Bands&year=2013
3/12 we're playing at The Sahara Lounge on Webberville Road for the Opportunity Youth Unofficial SXSW Showcase. Gonna be a uniquely Austin experience during a uniquely Austin week in music.
Music's all over Austin this week -- There is, of course, the official SXSW ($$$), but there's also a lot of UNofficial SXSW.
Thankfully, not having a South By wristband isn't something that has to stop anyone from enjoying the tons of really good music that'll be performed at venues and showcases around town but simply isn't officially "SXSW". Plenty for free, too.
SXSW Music Festival is coming up fast. Looking forward to lots of great music at official (AND "unofficial") SXSW shows all that week. We'll keep you posted.
