The Turbosonics are keeping warm inside this winter of 2012. We are polishing the original material and will soon be recording for real. This Spring will see the debut release from the Turbosonics featuring 7 original surf rock compositions, guaranteed to kick your ass!
We won't be playing any shows until we hammer this stuff out. So enjoy the winter and we'll see you soon!
September is a big month for surf. Late summer is hurricane season for the east coast and surfers are glued to the daily surf reports as the pressure systems turn out some honkin’ waves. However, Irene has put a hold on the sport this week-end! Here in da ‘Burgh, September is also the last chance to take in the summer outdoor concerts, festivals and car cruises before all eyes are fixated on our beloved Steelers . The Turbosonics have some fun events coming up next month to finish out the summer season.
Saturday, Sept. 3rd they’ll be appearing With Surfin’ Cowboy Slim Forsythe at the Nied’s Hotel Acoustically Perfect Outdoor Amphitheater in Lawrenceville. This is the coolest amphitheater in town! The band will have a guest appearance on Slim’s new CD and they just may perform the song for the first time at this show - definitely something to witness. Showtime is 7 PM rain or shine, and it’s free!
Saturday, September 10th, is the Drifters Car Club’s Steeltown Shakedown and The Turbosonics will make their fourth annual appearance. The Shakedown is held at the Twin Hi-Way Drive-in in Robinson Township and starts at 1 PM. Every year this event gets bigger and better. Every rat rod, car, truck and bike is a work of art. This rockabilly culture displays an art form that won’t be found at events like Three Rivers Arts Festival, or venues like The Warhol Museum. It’s a full day of handcrafted cars, food, vendors, music, as well as other surprises throughout the day, and it ends with the b-movie “It Conquered the World”. Visit drifterscc.com/ShakedownSite for details and photos from past years.
Tuesday, September 27th The Turbosonics will open for ‘80’s band Men Without Hats at the Hard Rock. Tickets are $15. This should be an interesting show merging surf with ‘80’s new wave music. And, you can dance if you want to! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for tix.
Friday, Oct.14th will be The Turbosonics first appearance at The Obey House in Crafton. The band is excited about branching out to neighborhoods on the other side of the Ohio River. Our thanks to DJ Junior for getting the band into The Obey House. If you’ve never heard him, Junior spins some of the best authentic rockabilly around.
Save this date! Saturday, Dec. 17th is Turbonsonics’ drummer Timmy Klatte’s Nifty Fifty Surfin’ Christmas Birthday Party at Nied’s Hotel. Come early and join Timmy for dinner and afterwards the band will rock the walls of Nied’s and the sidewalks of Lawrenceville. Some surprise guests may be joining the band for a few songs. While there, enjoy one of Nied’s Famous Fish Sandwiches. You may also visit niedshotel.myfastsite.net to review their menu.
Hope to see you over the next few months and hang loose!
The Turbosonics have plenty of shows in May of 2011. We're working on our original material and plan to record an album this summer. Stay tuned for more details. And in the meantime...come out and see a show!
We're gearing up for the show at Moondogs, (http://www.moondogs.us/) in Blawnox February 25th. It's our manager's (Harriet) birthday. She throws herself a party every year to celebrate, but this year she's doing it with the "Surf Zombies" and Pittsburgh vetran rockers "Tom Breiding and American Son." The show starts at 9:00, doors open at 8:00. That night we'll be selling tickets for our upcoming show at the "Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh" Thursday March 10, with Sublime tribute band, "40 oz To Freedom", from California. (http://www.facebook.com/pages/40-Oz-To-Freedom-Sublime-Tribute-Band/121002368197). We need to pre-sell tickets for the Hard Rock show - We have a goal of selling just 30 tickets. Thank you in advance for your support! Tickets are $12. Also playing that night will be Local Hip-Hop band "Apex" and jam-grass band "Dizzy Woosh." Lots of great music.
We didn't know this existed. Pretty Cool... http://www.nesmasurf.org/
