I always tend to forget about this little blog section. It seems we've all gotten used to Facebook and so many other daily entries that we tend to forget to check in on the things we care about. Anyway, spring is almost here!! And with that comes change. New beginnings await. The SwenTones have dissolved for the time being, but we'll still be playing together on occasion later this year. In the meantime, Gray & I will continue the duo as well adding a few new folks to the roster. The music scene is always evolving and so shall we.
I'm hoping to start recording again by July, with attempts at a December release for a full length album. I think we'll have enough material by then to really make a push in a new market. I'm excited to tour again and to get back to doing what I truly love full time. Stay tuned and we'll keep you up to date.
Well here we are, the end of July already, and we've yet to make progress on any of these music sites. For the 3 years I'v e been doing online promotions I have yet to get a gig out of any of the sites. Still no phone call from a new venue saying they heard us on here, or a fellow performer looking for an opening act. Needless to say it's a bit frustrating, but more importantly, it's taught me not to rely on digital communication as a source for musical expression. I could have a million fans and a billion widget hits, but none of that will do any of us any good if no one buys a cd, tshirt, or even a sticker for that matter.
Maybe I'm going about this whole business wrong, but what's there to screw up in the process? Make calls, get the shows, promote the hell out of the shows with flyers, emails, and web postings, play the shows, and then come home and do it all over again in hopes that you entertained somebody. Music is my life these days, I don't have a "day" job but it's to the point where maybe a day job is all I have to look forward to. I'm not looking for stardom, or a record deal, or any endorsements. I'm looking to put a smile on a persons face, a tear in someone's beer, and most importantly, a little light in this overall dark corner we call midlife.
Anyways, the point of the rambling is this: As of today, there has not been ONE track sold in almost 2 years. I find it really hard to believe, but that's what the numbers tell us. So either people truly don't pay for music these days, or someone's made a few bucks off our creativity. If you'd like a cd,tshirt, to book a gig...anything...please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
So here we are and it's April already!! Summer is just around the corner which means plenty of travel and gigs to come. If you happen to know of a venue that you think would work for my style of music, please let me know. I'm more than happy to hit the road and share the stage.
In the meantime, the EP (Mike Swenson & the Nouns : Take One) is officially done. 6 tracks for your listening pleasure. Soon to be available via various online stores, but if you'd like an actual cd, you can pay via PayPal for just $5. please email email@example.com for more info.
Take care and I hope to see you all at a show soon.
10/24/07 : Greetings from Denver, CO. Tonight we wrapped up the tour at the Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen, CO. By far one of the coolest venues I've ever come across. I'll definitely be back in the future. The last few weeks have certainly been an adventure. From Kansas, I was back through Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado, with a just few days off to collect my thoughts. Tomorrow we'll venture into the mountains for a day of relaxation and reflection before heading back to ND for the winter to get the album recorded and live recordings sorted out. Thanks to all of you who made it out. I'll get the notes transcribed before too long, so stay tuned. Pictures should be posted soon. 10/4/07 : Greetings from Topeka, KS. The van's holding up nicely, as are the fans. Myself and Bear's Acoustic Honey are carving our names into the midwest highways and soon enough, the northwest byways. So stay tuned for more dates to pop up. Tonight I'm off to Lawrence, KS. more news later. stay true, stay you. - Swens
