So I've never done a blog. I suppose I have a tumblr but I'm not sure that really counts especially considering the little amount of time I spend on it. Regardless, here's me giving a go at my first blog entry:
I'm starting out as a musician. I'm not even really sure if I can call myself that yet with the little professional experience I have, but that's what I'm attempting to do: begin. I'm 17 and still in high school, so of course, I have my obstacles. However, this has been it for me for a long time. When people ask me what I want to do, I tell them with no hesitation. I've known for a quite a while so it's a pretty easy, solid answer: "Uh, you know, I kinda sorta want to be a professional musician", I say, because honestly, it feels kind of embarrassing to tell people you want to start a career in something as risky as the music industry. Despite my uncertain-sounding answer, that is in fact actually what I'd really kill to do for a living. This summer is my beginning with the release of my very first EP. I'm not going to lie, it was super hard to make. It technically took around a year, though I worked on it off and on again throughout that time. I recorded all of it around my house, so if you happen to think it sounds professionally recorded, that is AWESOME. It has several flaws, but I think it's a good start. I can't wait to one day enter a real studio with a real producer and a real recording engineer who know what they're doing (because I sure don't!) so that I can re-record all those tracks and add others. I can't wait to record a full album. And I can't wait to start playing real shows.
It's not going to be easy, and I know that. But you've got to start somewhere right?
I know few people are listening so far (or rather, reading) but I figure every career starts at the bottom. I've just got to find the path to the top (or really just the middle, you know? I'd be okay with being in the middle). It feels kind of hopeless sitting here looking at all these other artists that have a head start, but...we'll see where it goes, right?
Thanks for reading,
