ROCK BAND® DELIVERS LEGENDARY ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE ROY ORBISON TO THE ROCK BAND MUSIC STORE
Cambridge, Mass. – January 2, 2009- Harmonix and MTV Games announced today the addition of one of the most influential pioneers of rock and roll, Roy Orbison, to the Rock Band® Music Store catalog of downloadable content. Grammy Award-winning Roy Orbison was a singer, songwriter and performer whose distinctive sound scored him an astounding nine Top 10 hits in four years in the early 1960s. Orbison’s historic career began in the 1950s and saw a huge resurgence in the late 1980s, when he became a prominent influence on artists like Bruce Springsteen, Chris Isaak and K.D. Lang.
The “Roy Orbison Pack 01” will include “Oh, Pretty Woman,” “Ooby Dooby,” “In Dreams,” “Claudette,” “Mean Woman Blues” and “You Got It.” All six songs will be available for download as individual tracks as well. These six songs featured are hits from Orbison’s incredible legacy of albums including the recently released definitive box set Roy Orbison: The Soul of Rock And Roll (2008) which contains 107 recordings spanning Orbison’s entire career, and In Dreams: The Greatest Hits.

“When I was a kid my world evolved around a black vinyl record. And how times have changed......... Rockband and Harmonix have introduced a new way to experience music. Now everyone can belong to a band. And how much more fun could you have, than to play the opening riff of Oh Pretty Woman and try to sing like Roy Orbison !!!!!

ROY ORBISON - THE SOUL OF ROCK AND ROLL
Roy Orbison was a superhero of song. Unassuming in appearance, he became someone extraordinary when his weeping tenor took flight, rising from deep, dark places on anguished ballads like "Only the Lonely" and "Crying." Orbison rebuilt the stark balladry of Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" as a jukebox opera house, expanded rock's arrangement limitations, and opened a door to Phil Spector and Freddie Mercury alike. This 107-track box captures Orbison's Fifties rockabilly beginnings on its first disc, where his energetic spurt at Sun Records gets eclipsed by unreleased demos that reveal tuneful talents primed to explode. The second disc sympathetically sequences his early-Sixties album tracks and B sides, yet more remarkable is how smoothly the third navigates from his triumphant '64 classic, "Oh, Pretty Woman," to his maligned Seventies output without quality plummet. The fourth disc documents his late-Eighties comeback, which justifiably lingered beyond his sudden 1988 passing. This is the only anthology that does justice to every stage of Orbison's career, not just the one lined with gold BARRY WALTERS
