Yesterday I had the opportunity to lend my voice for a Veterans Day Ceremony at Glenwood Assisted Living in Vancouver, Wa. I was a little nervous at first. It's not like I don't sing in front of people all the time, but this was different. Every time I see a tear roll down someone's cheek as I bring back memories, I choke up. I was pretty sure I would see alot of them. So I started off with the National Anthem. When I sing it for the Timbers Soccer games, the Army sings along with me and they still give me room to sing it my own way. Yesterday I started singing the National Anthem and the Seniors were singing it louder than I was, and I had a microphone! The whole time I kept saying to myself "sing it the way they sing it, no variation! Sing it the way they know it!" So I did. Boy that was hard! I had to keep reminding myself how the original version goes, even though I dont deviate too far from the original. But just enough to make me go hmmmm. When it was time to sing the military songs, that was a little interesting. I had a piano player with me and a few minutes before the residents came in, we went over the songs. They seemed fine and I went along with the keys she had learned them in. BUT that is not how it played out. All I can say is that the first song started out really easy and by the time we were singing the Navy Branch song, I was in full operatic voice! I kind of backed off and let the residents just take over! The keys were right, except I believe the range on the piano kept creeping up!
Well so I got a chance to redeem myself once more afterwards. I got to sing America the Beautiful and God Bless America. Of course all the residents chimed in and were singing full force, and I could not help but smile! It made me feel so good listening to them. Only a few tears were shed that day and I tried to not look. You want to remember fallen soldiers and praise them, but the saddness all around sometimes is overwhelming. I was really happy to see there were a few couples there whom which both the husband and the wife served in the military. I don't know, something about seeing an elderly lady proudly raising her hand for the branch she was part of is an awesome sight!
I will leave you with this: No one can ever take away the magic a performer experiences in times like these. It makes all the negativity surrounding our daily lives all worth it.

Have you all been keeping your New year's resolutions? I made a few and so far I am on the right track. I have a feeling this year will be a very good one! My first show of the year and my first one with my full band went off without a hiccup! I was so relaxed and we all had a great time performing! If you don't enjoy what you do, you shouldn't do it, right? Well in the next few weeks I will be putting out my Kickstarter fundraiser so I can get my CD going. I know a ton of you have been waiting for it!! On a different note, my son is now 12 weeks old and adorable! I am not looking too bad for just having a baby either, lol! I will be back in shape in no time. I look forward to seeing you at many shows this year! Take care, Carrie

Wow, I cannot believe we are in 2011 already! It is just amazing how quickly the times have been flying by. I am so grateful I have been able to perform as a singer and songwriter for the past few years. I would not have been able to do this if I did not have the support group that I have. I anticipate 2011 to be even better than what i have experienced thus far.
I am in Nashville right now. Many of you know my trip this time was cut short due to the weather, but I have made the best of it. I was able to still make all three shows, and I was able to write three songs as well! That is staying busy for sure! Today I will be heading to Doak's house for the the monthly 3rd Sunday songwriters gathering. It is the most fun songwriters can have. Good friends, good food, good music! I love it! I head back tomorrow morning to the NW to see my babies. I am looking forward to seeing them, along with my husband, my rock. I would not be living this dram without him! He is my biggest fan!
Well, time to get ready for the fun!!
