New Video Release "People Who Died"

Catholic Boys is one of those records for me… It colors my landscape, it shapes my vision, it inspires the work I’ve done for the last 20 yrs and “People Who Died” is THAT song. It’s the song that made me slam dance alone in my bedroom as a kid. It’s's song that told me I need to come to NY. That’s what it meant to me the first time I heard it. Then, it meant something different in the late 80′s during the height of the AIDS epidemic . Then, it meant something else to me in the 90s during my own personal turmoil. And yes, it even meant somrthing different to me on Sept 11, 2001. Today, it means all those things and more… Today THAT song also becomes mine , even though it’s always felt like it was - I think that’s how Jim intended for it to be.

Dedicated to the memory of Jim Carroll (August 1, 1949 – September 11, 2009)

ROCK ON!

GMHC show

The GMHC food drive was very succesful the other night at XES Lounge. Thanks for all the support!! As far as the show, it went really well.People were really receptive. You know it's not always that easy winning over "the gays" with rock & roll. I guess the Ed Hardy undies did the trick.

A Christmas thought.. a few days late...

Dec 24th, 2008. I felt like my father. Waiting for my kid to fall asleep. Than running outside, going into the trunk of the car, getting some of the gifts out, going into the basement, pulling out more stuff from there, and then dragging everything into the living room. It took us about 4 hours to get everything together. When it was all done, Andrew and I stood in front of the Christmas tree and just watched. I wanted to cry - cry from the happiness I felt; cry from the anticipation of seeing the joy on my son's face in the morning; cry because I missed my father; but mostly because I had just realized that there really is a Santa Claus.

Merry Christmas.

So I went to see Milk the other night...

So I went to see Milk the other night. Is it ironic that California was dealing with Prop 6 thirty years ago and here we are dealing with Prop 8 in 2008? It's the same thing just worded differently. It aims at discriminating against gays and lesbians in one form or another. Maybe it isn't ironic? Maybe it's just meant to be. Another right of passage. It reminds us how far we've come and how it can all be taken away.

Lazy, hazzy Wednesday in NY.

Still have a shit- load of stuff to do today, though. Got to pick supplies for the restaurant; pick up the Christmas trees (We have ours for the house, thank God. Well, it's not decorated but we got it!!!); we have an apptmt in Ft. Greene for a possible new spot; we have to decorate these 3 damn trees; I have to find time to get a little practicing in (got a gig on Saturday); oh yeah and the dogs, the kid and the ever present social networking. Thank God I've been up since 6am.

It is good to be home.

It must have been about a quarter till eleven when we got home last night. The baby fell asleep in the car on the way after a 4 hour flight from Puerto Rico. The "girlies" (our dogs) were so excited to see us. I put Ray Ray into his pajamas - he didn't wake up. We just left the luggage upstairs and crawled into bed. Of course the moment we did Lola, our bull terrier who's been sick for a few weeks, started throwing up buckets. What a nightmare! We were too exhausted to even clean it up. We threw towels all over the floor and we all fell asleep. At about 2:30am we heard that familiar voice - "Daddy. Daddy. Juice. Milk. Daddy. Change the diaper". As nutty as it sounds, it is good to be home. :-)

Happy and Thankful...

"When everyone's together everyone is happy We are Thankful that we have so much to share." NOGGIN

Happy Thanksgiving. Safe travels.

You have to pick your battles.

I learned that a long time ago. Otherwise, everything is a struggle. Who the hell wants to live their life that way - constantly struggling? That would just suck. Pick your battles, baby. Pick your battles.
