I had a revelation the other day while watching a friends band perform. They had a classic PA set up and and were blasting the room out with rock n roll. The problem is, only their friends and family were in the band area and all the bar patrons were in the other room where they could talk. The band was so loud that you had to shout at each other. I started thinking about how many shows that I played where everyone but a few diehards were all in the other part of the bar where they could visit and hold a conversation. Especially women. I now understand that if people in the venue can't hold a conversation while eating their food or enjoying their drinks with friends they will avoid the band and not interact with you driving off your potential customer base. In the future I'm going for better quality live sound at lower volumes in an effort to appeal to a greater audience and not run off potential customers.
