What a great way to end the year! I feel very honored and privileged to have discovered this morning that The National Flute Association are publishing the following review of my album, Asturias, in their Winter 2015 issue of The Flutist Quarterly. Huge thanks go to everyone else involved in the album including Richard Taylor, Tim Maple, Nicola Loud, Helene Hørlyck, Stelios Kalisperides, Robin Hill, Simon Duggal, John Ramirez, George DeMott, Taylor Meschke, Marvin Randall, D Eric Woolweber, Greg Perkins, Megan Nicole Gallup and Lauren Hall. If anyone would like to hear songs from the album you can preview them on my website www.garyarbuthnot.com. Happy New Year! "Stunningly beautiful and impeccable were the first words that came to mind as I listened to Irish flutist Gary Arbuthnot playing on the CD Asturias. Arbuthnot’s tone is luscious, deep, rich, velvety, pure—every quality you could imagine in the ideal flute tone (or at least my ideal). His musicality is relaxing and moving and his technical precision is flawless. Since the CD packaging has no program notes, I did some sleuthing on the Internet to find out more about Arbuthnot and the album before I listened. CDBaby describes the CD as “a contemporary crossover album...featuring classical, Celtic, rock, and popular music hits.” Titles include “For the Love” (from the film Braveheart), “The Rose,” “He’s a Pirate” (from the film Pirates of the Caribbean), “Schindler’s List,” “November Rain” (by the rock group Guns and Roses), “Carmen,” “El Tango De Roxanne” (from the film Moulin Rouge), and Adagio (by Albinoni), to name a few. The arrangements are imaginative and distinct, and the order of the selections was thoughtfully considered; the CD takes you on a musical journey through a variety of moods, styles, and genres. —Rebecca Hovan, The Flutist Quarterly, Winter 2015
It was a great honor this week to return to the No 1 spot in the Las Vegas Reverbnation Classical Charts. I really appreciate all the wonderful comments from fans literally across the world who take the time to write. Please continue to enjoy the music. There will be some new exciting tracks coming out in 2015 in conjunction with my producer Richard Taylor in London. Can't wait for you to hear them. In the meantime I wish everyone a wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year. Cheers!
I just heard today that I have moved up to the No 1 spot in the Reverbnation Classical Chart for Las Vegas. A huge thank you to all the fans of my music who have made this possible.
I just found out today that I will be a featured artist on the Reverbnation website for the next week. This is a great honour and I just want to say a huge thank you to the fans of my music who have made this possible. Your continued support and votes allow me to reach more people every day. Every time I open an iTunes Album sales report I am amazed where people are buying the albums - literally from all corners of the planet. It is actually very humbling to think that the fun I have creating the arrangements with my great friend and producer Richard Taylor and all the other wonderful musicians in the studio back in Tunbridge Wells in the UK (just outside London for those of you not from the area.), is being discovered and enjoyed (through the power of the internet) by fans across six continents. (I don't think there is an Antarctica iTunes store - at least not yet!) Please stay tuned for some new tracks and videos from the live shows coming soon. Thank you again to everyone.
It has been a busy month and as I sit here in Quebec airport waiting for my flight home it's remarkable to think that in the last 30 days I have crossed the Atlantic Ocean 3 times and been in 15 different cities in 5 countries. The Crystal Symphony was a joy as always to perform on. They truly live up to their name of the best cruise line in the world and make my job of performing my show so effortless. I have to admit that the odd visit to Silk Road (Nobu) for probably the best Sushi available at sea certainly helps fill the time between performances. I was also very fortunate to celebrate my 40th Birthday there at the beginning of September and it could not have been better getting to share that not only with family, but with great friends who have been in my life over the last decade at sea. I think many of us are still trying to recover! A short four day break in London was followed by a trip to Quebec to join the Celebrity Summit. I think the New England cruise has to be one of my favourite itineraries. Not only for the spectacular scenery but also for the fresh Lobster to be found especially in Maine. Again a great team were on hand to help with the show and I had the great pleasure of working with a very funny comedian from New Jersey - Phil Tag. If you haven't heard of him I highly recommend checking him out. His show was hilarious and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Next up will be the Celebrity Century in Hawaii. See you in Honolulu!
Opening the pandora's box that is Reverbnation has revealed so many other opportunities I did not know even existed. One of them was the ability to have my own app for both Android and iPhone. I have managed to get the Android App released and waiting for the iPhone app to be approved. But the app for Android looks great thanks to the team at Reverbnation. Great feedback so far and looking forward to the release of the iPhone app later in September. For anyone with an Android phone please check out the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reverbnation.artistapp.i672039 Let me know what you think and which elements you enjoy the most. You can stream previews of all the tracks of the new album "Asturias", see photos, check on tour dates, sign up to the newsletter and more. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Gary
It is a very busy and exciting week with the launch of the new album. I have to admit to feeling slightly overwhelmed with the endless options available to promote it, and cannot help but think I have reopened pandoras box every time I click on a new website! Step by step I look forward to exposing the album to as many people as possible and sharing the great arrangements that were created alongside my good friend and producer Richard Taylor. Without him none of this would have been possible and I am deeply indebted to his incredible talent. If you enjoy the music please follow on your social media platform of choice. Hopefully I have they all covered. Feel free to leave comments on which tracks are your favourites. I look forward to hearing from you.
