Wicked Wilde Going to Texas Jazz Festival!

Started rehearsals yesterday with my trio Wicked Wilde for the Texas Jazz Festival in October being held in Corpus Christi, Texas! Whoo-hoo! Guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander have been performing at the Jazz Fest for many years with their well-known and respected instrumental jazz-fusion group The Ben Martinez Project. This is going to be our first year as just the trio - Wicked Wilde! No pressure. Yah! I am thrilled beyond words that Ben and Dave would have such confidence in me and our trio. I love you guys!

Beautiful Recording Session!

Had a beautiful recording session yesterday with guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander at Mountain Road Recording Studios with the help of owner/engineer Sid Fendley - also an incredible jazz musician his own self! Came out of it with four great tunes and hope to get them mixed and out into the world soon. Our trio, Wicked Wilde is on its way!

Ready to Record!

My trio - Wicked Wilde - with guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander had a fantastic rehearsal last night in preparation for our upcoming recording on Sunday. Of course today had to be the first day of summer - the longest day of year! Just when I can't wait to get into the studio and play! The tunes feel raucous and delicious and ready - and so do we! We're planning on four tunes - but I wanna do more. More! Haaaa... We'll see. We'll see..... Deep breath. Tomorrow. Gonna be a great day!

Had a GREAT rehearsal!

Whoa! My trio - Wicked Wilde - had such an amazing rehearsal yesterday, it was hard to remember we hadn't played in a few weeks. My brilliant creative partners - guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander - laid down some gorgeous music while the wind howled outside. We took on "Angel Eyes," "Some of These Days" and opened up on "Ain't Misbehavin'!" You just want everyone to experience the ease and beauty that comes with such creative endeavors. We'll be going into the studio in the next few weeks and recording and hopefully getting out to perform very soon. I'll let you all know! Thanks so much for all your support. It means more than you know! Wishing you sweet music and much joy!

Excited about upcoming gig!

Thrilled to be working with the Ben Martinez Project. Guitarist Ben Martinez, bassist David Friedlander and drummer Josh English. Sweet! Can't wait to wail at Vernon's Hidden Valley Steakhouse on Aug. 30th from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Gonna be tasty, so we hope to see you there! Dig it.

Can You Dig It?!

Hey - soon to be gigging with the great Ben Martinez Project in July at Vernon's in Albuquerque. Gonna be too coo-el, baby! Details to come. Dig it!

Look out! M.J.'s Back in Town!

I know I've been away for a while, but I didn't realize how damn good it would feel to be back in Albuquerque. Today I had a visit with my dear musical soul mate, pianist Jim Ahrend. Wow, man. He's married to a wonderful lady and never looked happier. We have plans to record more - including an album of chicken blues that you are NOT gonna believe! Ha! It's going to be just my luck, you know. I will not become famous for being a great jazz singer. I will become famous as that chicken singer. Mark my words, man. It won't be M.J. Wilde who will go down in history. It will be her alter ego: Blanche Poulet. Oh dear. This week I'll be heading down to Vernon's on Fourth Street to inform them that I will be playing there, they just don't know it yet. Heh-heh. Also, heading up to Santa Fe venues to do the same. Love it. I mean, why not? I've found I'm just not afraid to just walk right in and give it all I got. Tired of wasting time. No more bullshit. So, if you're out and about and looking for some good music and see my name out there or hear I'm playing at a club near you - look out! M.J. Wilde is back in town and I'll tell you straight out: I'll give ya everything I got!

Bup-ada-bebop in my head

There's a bup-ada-bebop in my head and I'm trying to keep it from overflowing out into the public domain. But sometimes you can't - sabu-day-dee-da-doo-bop! - just repress your natural tendency to - bebop! Dig? No Miss Manners, me, and I wanna just explode onto the landscape-eddy-scree-slip and jolt the straights out of their tight little boots. You know, shoe-horn 'em outta the blinders that has 'em lookin' nowhere but down, down, down-dee-doo-day-ettle-which-way when there's joy up in here! If I do not scat - if I do not sing - if I do not laugh, with a beat and a bee-doo-bee, I'll be doomed to wander in a darkness with no rhythm all 'round, 'round, 'round - teh-do-pah ... depp! So when you see me passin' by, snap a finger and move a toe to the bup-ada-bebop comin' outta my head and sing, sing, sing-ee-diddle-du-fray-fray ... sweeeeet! MJW
