London To Headline CMS 13th Anniversary Show!

On the 10/18/08 edition of THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, it was announced that Nadir D’Priest’s LONDON will play their first live show east of the Mississippi as part of THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW’s 13th Anniversary Concert on Saturday, January 17th. The Concert will take place at the HiFi Concert Club, located at 11729 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, OH. Also on the bill is the Billy Morris Band, featuring guitarist Billy Morris of Warrant and Quiet Riot fame.

LONDON was a legendary Los Angeles “Sunset Strip” band that acted as a breeding ground for musicians that went on to form the biggest bands of the 80s. Alumni of the band include Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue), Blackie Lawless (WASP), Izzy Stradlin (Guns N’ Roses) and Fred Coury (Cinderella). The band released 2 albums in the 80s (1985’s NON-STOP ROCK and 1986’s DON’T CRY WOLF), as well as an album under the D’Priest moniker called PLAYA DEL ROCK (1990). London – THE METAL YEARS was released in October featuring lost tracks and finished demos from the band’s history, as well as the new lineup of London’s cover of Motley Crue’s “Shout At The Devil”.

BILLY MORRIS has had almost 2 decades of success as everyone’s favorite guitarist for hire. Billy made waves as the guitarist for Warrant throughout the 90s, playing on and producing the band’s UNDER THE INFLUENCE release. He additionally was tapped to tour with legendary guitarist Paul Gilbert, and most recently was hired as a touring guitarist with Quiet Riot. Currently, Billy Morris is working on brand new material that stretches the boundaries of classic metal which he’s most known for.

For this special 13th Anniversary showcase, THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW has set up a special website with information and musical samples of the bands playing this anniversary show. To view this website, go to www.theclassicmetalshow.com/anniversary/ .

Tesla and Ripper On CMS 10/10 and 10/11

TERRESTRIAL SHOW ON FM RADIO BEGINNING Friday, 10/10

KEIF, 104.7FM, Enid, OK – www.enidradio.org – 11pm EST – Friday, October 10th – This week on THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, CMS friend Tim “Ripper” Owens comes on to shoot the shit once again. Tim, of course, is best known for his time leading the mighty Judas Priest after Rob Halford left the band. Following Halford’s return, Ripper went on to form Beyond Fear; a band that both Neeley and Chris had in their top two releases last year. Owens has resurfaced with a whole slew of activity. He’s been named the new vocalist of Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force, is working on a new solo project, and the much anticipated sophomore release of Beyond Fear. He calls in to shoot the shit with Neeley and Chris about the new Malmsteen release called PERPETUAL FLAME.

LIVE UNCENSORED INTERNET SHOW ON 10/11

The CMS Radio Network – www.cmsradio.net – 9pm EST - Saturday, October 11th – This week on THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, we go back to the “Tesla” well once again. Tesla has a brand new album called FOREVER MORE, which is the perfect “next chapter” of the Tesla story. Original member and drummer Troy Lucketta of Tesla has agreed to come onto THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW to talk about the FOREVER MORE. Additionally, Lucketta will talk about his great work with the Dublin Death Patrol (which also features Zetro Souza of Exodus and Chuck Billy of Testament). Obviously, Troy will also talk about the new album, touring plans, how Dave Rude has fit in and much more as the conversation progresses.

We’re Not Here To Be Nice

We’re Not Here To Be Nice By Chris Akin

I was reviewing the CMS sites today, and I stumbled across a posting from yet another dumbbell that feels like he knows what we, as a show, should be doing. Of course, it’s yet another Talking Metal fan that doesn’t like that we bash on bands, other shows, etc.

See, here’s the thing for everyone that stumbles across THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, or is a fan of metal in general. Any thoughts that everyone in the world of Metal has to get along and support each other because it’s “metal” are ridiculous. Nothing could be further from the truth in my mind, or in Neeley’s mind (if I can be so bold as to speak for him). Throughout the history of Heavy Metal, it’s been one of the biggest problems with the genre as a whole. Simply put, it refuses to police itself. Instead of saying that a band sucks, it’s common to say, “dude, at least it’s metal”. Wrong, wrong, wrong! If the band is shit, then it’s just not representative of what good metal is. Since it’s shit, yet supported, the average fly on the wall listener will pass it buy and not only think a song is shit, but the fans of it are as well. There’s a reason that metal fans are generally regarded as dumbasses. This is why.

The same can be said about the shows. Hell, everyone and their brother these days can plug in a K-Mart microphone to their computer, fire up the Winamp DSP and call themselves a radio show. According to this dumbass that posted on our Itunes, we’re wrong for calling out Talking Metal and Dirt Talk instead of “uniting” for the cause. Hey dummy, go fuck yourself! If it’s crap, we’re going to say so. We encourage anyone with the balls to do so to do the same thing about our show on their show if they see fit. The fact that Talking Metal does their show from this bar and that bar, passing the microphone back and forth and yelling to each other over top of the clanking of dishes in a bar doesn’t make them a compelling listen. It makes them undisciplined, lazy, and unbelievably self important in that they think they are stars. They aren’t stars. They are two NYC dopes that caught the break of working within the New York media. Bravo. It doesn’t make their show good. Dirt Talk…well, just listen to it. Why it’s made fun of becomes evident.

I loved the analogy in this assfucks review of the CMS too that John Bush didn’t want to bash on Rocklahoma bands, so we shouldn’t? Basically, if a singer in a band we like says it’s cool, then it must be. Why think? Typical Talking Metal listener, if you ask me. Rocklahoma is good for the heavy metal scene, as is Rock The Bayou, South Texas Jam, etc. That being said though, not all the bands playing these festivals are great, or good…or even average. Some fill slots for the promoter. God forbid we call someone out on that.

We’re compared a lot to Opie and Anthony, and that’s fine with me. At the beginning of their show each day, there’s a clip of Anthony venting, “since when does radio have to be nice?” Exactly, Ant! It doesn’t have to be nice, and we’re not going for the nice market. The world sucks. People fucking suck. You suck as well! Back to the quotes…”If you don’t like it, turn the dial” – Sean Hannity.

Those of you looking for happy radio, go listen to your Mr. Rogers’ metal show. Talking Metal figuratively sucks every band’s dick that comes on their shit show. So enjoy that, and say away from this show. We only cater to people willing to hear things that are harsh, disagree with us when we make a point they don’t like, and can handle honesty instead of corporate sucking up with poor quality to go with it.

Die!

Tracii Guns, Brian Stuart Fox and A Really Special Guest 8/9/08!

Tonight on THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, LA Guns Guitarist Tracii Guns will be calling into the show. Tracii and his version of LA Guns are out on the road with new vocalist Marty Casey to strengthen the band prior to the release of a brand new album, scheduled for release in early 2009. Guns will be calling in to talk about both versions of LA Guns, as well as the new album, touring with Faster Pussycat, and whatever else comes in in teh course of conversation.

Additionally on the show, we'll step a bit left of the musical center and speak with musician/activist Brian Stuart Fox. Fox's "911 Was An Inside Job" has become the anthem of conspiracy theorists around the country, including their unofficial spokesman, radio personality Alex Jones. We'll play a couple tunes from Fox, and talk some conspiracy with Brian and the fans.

Finally, we have a very special surprise guest that will be calling in that is sure to please the hardcore fans of the CMS greatly. That's all the more hints we'll give on this one, but we guarantee the hardcore fans of THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW will be thrilled that this individual will be calling the show.

Great Show Last Night

Hey everyone,

It's Chris. It's been about 4 hours since the show ended, and I'm still up and not sleeping, so I figured I'd give this blog a shot here.

Last night's show was truly a lot of fun. Who knew 2 years ago when we stumbled across the Madpodcast how much fun Shadow Steele would be. That guy is truly a classic all by himself. Speaking of classics, Scott Clark from 104.7 was on fire last night as well. Did anyone else catch the hints that Scott was giving about THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW having some major involvement in his new station in the coming months? Hmmmm...that sounds interesting, doesn't it?

I have to say also that I was very honored to speak with Lipps from Anvil last night. It's not often that we get to chat with true legends like that, and while he may not be the biggest name to a lot of you, METAL ON METAL was an album that was a life changer for me in the same way as things like HEAVEN & HELL, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL and SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE were for me. Just cool to speak with him.

Don't forget, next week on the two shows, we'll have Ms. Lauren Harris stopping by, as well as Tracii Guns from LA Guns B-Version, Mikey, and allegedly Stephen Pearcy. That should be fun.

Oh well guys, have a good week and we'll rock it again next weekend!

Love Me,

Chris
