FAMILY / EASTER
We rounded out our weekend with a big family gathering at my Moms for Easter and had a great time watching all the kids run around playing games, finding and hiding eggs, having water fights, dancing etc.
My “family” has always been extended to anyone around us. After the three of my siblings were a bit older, my Mom took in foster kids, she has adopted in the past and has done so recently too.
I had my issues with other younger beings in “my home” in my teens, but learned a lot about other people and their struggles and circumstances from this experience.
My patience to behavior from some of the children we took in was at times non-existent. That was, until, my Mom could explain their history or upbringing and I would start to try and think of how I would behave after going through some of the same things they had to endure.
After having a child I started to understand more of those feelings and I have come to view children from the eyes of a Dad or a parent in some way.
Not to sound weird, lol, but I feel my mind set changed quite a bit after having my son. I started thinking about how I would want people to treat my child and kind of adopted that mentality in how I interact.
The experience of having adopted siblings and foster brothers and sisters has also had an effect on me and the rest of my family in that we seem to see everyone as part of our family or the ever extending family.
Brothers and sisters from other mothers and misters. Lol.
Anyway, I enjoyed this Sunday very much with family and “extended family” and felt thankful to my Mom for teaching us that family goes way beyond who you were born to and where you are in the world.
That will do it for this week. I thank you all for being part of my extended family too, and I look forward to the next time I see you.
Much Love - Dean www.deanjohanesen.com

Not sure when I will be able to release the next studio record but it is in my mind and I am trying to get things together to get started. Time and money and for this round I am piecing folks together that will help me realize the tunes I have in mind.
I have been trying to get back to tracking my live shows and also doing some board recording directly from the mixing board I use to get a straight clean sound of the performances.
This coming Saturday at the Hideaway Café I have asked John to record my set so I can listen back and maybe post a few songs if things are sounding good to me.
I keep thinking more about just doing live CD’s. I like the production aspect of making a record but I also enjoy capturing a song in the moment from a live performance.
I may put together a special live show at the Hideaway and do a session where I invite you wonderful folks on the mailing list out to the event and record the show for a release between now and getting the studio record done.
Let me know what you all think on that and when might be a good time to arrange it. If I get a decent amount of feed back on a day of the week or weekend that works and maybe even month for it, I will get in touch with John and try to put it together for us.
Speaking of the live recordings, this past week I added 2 tracks from a live show on the Reverbnation music section. You can listen to those songs here:
The first 2 songs on the playlist are from the recordings I did recently.
Alright, that should do it for this week. Thank you all and I hope to see you soon.
Much Love - Dean www.deanjohanesen.com
Hello friends and Happy Tuesday to you all!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Busy days for me this past weekend and I appreciate seeing all of you that joined me at the shows. That being said…

Bridget Street Market, The Independent / Tampa
To The Artists - Thanks again to Treble Hook for the show at Rosie’s and thanks to Anson Mitchell for sitting in with me on mandolin Sunday at the Independent
To you - Had the pleasure of seeing a number of friends at the shows this week and I thank you all so much for that support.
Also, a number of folks offered to help bring some people out to the venues where I played this week that I am returning to in the coming month. That would be greatly appreciated!! Your help spreading the word about the music is the best kind of promotion I could get. AND we can always talk about some special offers for music or t-shirts etc. for your help too.
Wed. April 9 - The Cottage - Siesta Key - 6-9pm
Fri. April 11 - Southern Brewing - Tampa - 7-10:30pm
Sat. April 12 - Polo Grill - Lakewood Ranch - 6-9pm

Last week I messed up the links and posted 2 of the same videos. Here is the link for
You and Me Tonight:
Feel free to share this if you know someone who might like this tune.
April showers bring May Flowers.
Sitting at home on a Tuesday afternoon here in Florida pulling things together for this week listening to the rain outside and thinking about that statement.
I actually like the rain very much but I know it can be a bit tough for motivation. Today, it is just the thing I need to help me focus on catching up with the emails, the weekly update and bookings for shows to come etc. It is letting me feel ok with staying in and working on the business of music and preparing me for the clearer weather and busier times to come.
I am trying to remember and realize these lessons around me. I know how my perspective and trying to find the good in what is happening in the moment can help me work things out. I suppose I am affected by my surroundings sometimes more than maybe I would like to be.
Not to get all self help like on you all or come off as if I live in this manner on a regular basis. I battle with swinging emotions and I am convinced I will never be one of those people who is completely “Zen” like or something, as I am not. Lol.
I guess I am mentioning it because I have been feeling and experiencing things lately that are bringing up my past. Good or bad or whatever. I have been faced with my life as it has been (so far) quite a bit recently and thinking about how those things and sometimes just my perspective compared to others that have gone through similar things affect me.
Not sure just where that all is headed but again, the rain made me think about those “dark clouds” around me in this moment that are a touch easier to take thinking about the days that come….there is a song in there somewhere : )
I hope for good days to come for all of you and I thank you for your friendship and support.
Much love - Dean

Hello my friends and how are you all?
Sorry I have been a bit out of touch, but the touring has made it difficult to keep up with the emails like I normally would.
Speaking of, this 2014 tour to Austin TX went really well. Every run has had it’s share of ups and downs and cancelled gigs etc, but this one was by far the best for me out of all the years I have been going to SXSW.
I did have a cancelled gig at Logon Café but my friend Matt helped me out in Ocean City, MS with a make up gig at Big O’s Sports Bar. Thank you very much Matt!!
Turn out was not amazing at every show and I do not feel like I played my very best at every gig, but I did meet some wonderful people, heard some amazing music and more often than not, had a great response at the shows I performed and made new friends at each stop along the way and back.
I sincerely appreciate the folks at the shows, the venues, the festival organizers and to all of you at home for keeping in touch, wishing me well and helping spread the word.
To my families away from home - Brian And Rachel, Kim and Jason & family, Pete and Rachel & family. Thank you guys so much for your help and support during these tours. Their success and the ability for me to do them is largely in part to you opening up your homes to me once again and I can not thank you enough for that.
Festival organizers and their venues - Red Gorilla at Bourbon Girl and Dizzy Rooster - 3rd Coast Music / John Conquest at G&S Lounge and Giddy Ups - Dave Mann at Cherrywood Coffeehouse.
Check the Main site www.deanjohanesen.com for more Thanks from the tour.
SARASOTA FOLK FEST
My return to Florida after the tour was right back to work at the Sarasota Folk Festival. I arrived home late Friday night, early Saturday morning and had performances Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the Folk Festival.
I sincerely appreciate being included in the festival this year. I really enjoyed the shows and getting to meet new artists or hear some of my friends at this year’s fest.
My set on Saturday went pretty well. The crowd response was awesome and it meant a great deal to me.
I played an in the round set Sunday and I honestly felt I could have done a bit better with song choices and my performance, but I enjoyed the in the round with Bill and Kate Isles very much.
Thanks again to everyone involved with the Sarasota Folk Festival for having me, I sincerely appreciate it!!
I have been going since the beginning of the month with a move and work plus shows. I have had one day off since the beginning of March and that was a drive day from Panama City, FL to San Antonio, TX.
It has been great but I also have felt in a bit of a cloud since I have been back from the tour. Today has been the first day off from teaching class or having a show. I might just change my strings to get ready for tomorrow night. Lol.
Here is where I will be for my last show of the month:
Saturday, March 29th
Dean Johanesen LIVE at Tony’s Studio B
213 East Bay Street - Lakeland, FL 33801
Free show, 8-11pm, 21+, great food, amazing people,
beer & wine, beautiful place!!
Here is a link to a write up from my last show at Tony’s:
That will do it for this week’s edition. I know it is a long one, but I wanted to catch up with you all on the tour…what I could remember of it anyway. Lol.
I hope to see some of you Saturday in Lakeland. For those of you I do not see, I send you my best. Have a great weekend and I look forward to the next time I do see you.
Much Love - Dean
Happy Sunday to you and I hope you all had a great weekend.
I have not had much time to write or post online with having to drive the tour and play the shows. Internet connections and my phone signal have been limited so I am getting done what I can when I can.
The tour has been going well this year. My Austin experience seems to be growing each time I come out here. I have been making new friends and better connections for this festival and showcases outside of the big wheels of the official SXSW which I have not been able to get into just yet.
Each time I make the trek however, I feel I am learning more about what suits me and the music I make and where I might be able to find my footing in this wonderful music town.
Touring keeps you humble. There are amaxingly talented people everywhere and any time you play a new place for the first time, you have to count on the fact that no one knows you and in some cases nobody cares or they may not like what it is you do.
I have learned that can be a good thing. I am not looking for the people or places who do not appreciate my music, I am seeking the ones who do and always thankful to find those friends and venues along my travels. They keep me inspired and motivated to continue doing what I love.
That being said, I thank you all so much for being the family of friends that support me and the music I am making. I sincerely appreciate you all.
I will give you a quick run down of what I have coming up for the rest of this tour and then I have to head out for my showscase today.

I was rained out again this week at the Cottage but I want to thank them for buying me dinner for the inconvenience.
To The Artists - My sincere thanks to Ed Woltil for inviting me out to open for him at the Hideaway Café this past Saturday evening. Ed released his CD Paper Boats this weekend and performed 2 great sets with a mix of solo and band performances with The Loaded Questions.
Ed is one of my favorite songwriters. Not just locally but across the board. If you have not seen or heard him, you really should. I can not say enough about how much I appreciate what he does as a singer-songwriter, guitar player and human being. Honored to share the stage with him when I have had the pleasure to do so. Check him out here - www.edwoltil.com
Oh yeah, thanks to Rebekah Pulley for sitting in with me on Godspeed that night as well!!
To you - You all have been so great and supportive to me and the family of friends is growing so wonderfully. Thank you all for sharing information about the shows and videos as well as posts on Facebook etc. I appreciate you all so very much and thank you for the friendship and joy you bring me.

Thanks again to Pilot Moon Films and Hideaway Café for help making this video happen.
Alright, that should do it for now. This is my last week in town so I hope to see you before I hit the road for Austin. Thank you all for your friendship and support and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Much Love - Dean www.deanjohanesen.com

First things first…
To The Venues - The Cottage, Ortygia, ACMA & The Hub
My first show at Ortygia was a really enjoyable evening. 2 sets of instrumental music for Valentines Day dinner there and the owner and staff were wonderful to work with.
Also, the ACMA gig was such a great time for me. The venue was a wonderful listening room and the crowd was so welcoming and responsive. I so appreciated that show and thank everyone at the ACMA as well as everyone in attendance.
Special thanks to Roy Schneider for sharing the info with me about this great spot.

Last week I mentioned the video shoot with David Allison at the Hideaway Café. David’s new film company is called Pilot Moon Films. I want to thank David Allison & Joel Malizia at Pilot Moon Films and to John Kelly at The Hideaway Café for putting together these sessions for the local musicians to shoot some really great quality video with digital recording.
Here is a link to the new video for my song “You and Me tonight.” This was a one take quick shoot for the song. David had the video done the next day for me.
Check out Pilot Moon Films at the following links:
Also, congratulations to Pilot Moon Films for being accepted to SXSW to shoot footage of the festival this year. See you guys out there!!
LIKES & TWEETS
It seems silly to me sometimes to be pushing for Likes and Twitter followers, but I am learning it is something that some potential booking agencies, PR companies, Management etc. take a look at when considering working with you.
Right now I am working on finding a PR company to help me promote some of the touring I have been doing. The work on my own is pretty intense but the cost to pay a firm to do it is beyond my budget.
I am trying to figure out the next steps to take for the career and working at investing in the business of the music I make in a smart way. For now taking care of boosting my friend and fan base for the music and events is my goal.
That being said, the Musician Page on FB is up to 863 Likes right now. Getting close to that 1,000 mark.
I appreciate everyone for the help in making that happen. If you have a second, check out the FB Musician page and if you can Like it to help me out that would be great!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dean-Johanesen/229941070433735
That will do it for this week. I hope you all have a really wonderful weekend and I hope to see some of you out there at one of the shows coming up.
My best to you and yours - Dean www.deanjohanesen.com
I hope you all had a great weekend. I enjoyed the shows last week and really appreciate everyone that made it out to see me.

To The Artists - To all the folks who played the Market on 7th for James Geiger’s “I am not my disability” event. You can find out more about the benefit and the Documentary James is working on at the link here -. https://www.facebook.com/iamnotmydisability
James has been a great friend to me and he is a huge supporter of local musicians. I hope you will find out a bit more and see if you might be able to help him reach his goal for the project he is working on.
To you - Thank you to everyone that made it out to the shows this past week. A lot of you are helping promote the music, web sites, videos and tweets online. I thank you very much for the help spreading the word.
I do not have a PR company or “street team” helping with promotions so having your support in that regard is a great help to me and I thank you all for it very much!!

I will keep you all posted on how things are coming along with recording plans as I put it together and assemble some folks to help me with some of the ideas I have for the next record.
For now I am posting live tracks on the web site and the RN site. For the main web site, visit the Gallery section and I have added tracks and videos in the different galleries there.
That will do it for this week. I hope to catch up with you at one of the shows this months.
Thank you all and have a great week and weekend if I do not see you.
Sincerely - Dean www.deanjohanesen.com www.reverbnation.com/deanjohanesen
