Wolf Hound Metal Radio Review on CD

Formed in the late 70’s, Overlord SR , whom hail from, Fayetteville, North Carolina, offer up some NWOBHM like metal, and we all know you can’t go wrong there. Here we have cast upon our ears their album, Medieval Metal Too. Which in short, contain songs from the Demo; Medieval Metal, released in 1985. Thus, leading to signing with Metal Blade Records, allowing them to be put on the Metal Massacre VII CD Starting off the record, is, Full Speed Ahead. We are met with a high pace riff that comes in with no warning, it just straight kicks you in the face. Next we have, Keeper of the Flame, which is the track that was featured on Metal Massacre VIII. That version is also available on this CD. Enchantress of the Night is a very easy listening metal tune, with a sing a long chorus and straight ahead guitar riff. Following that we have a cover of early 70s folk duo Zager & Evans’ ‘In the Year 2525’ A good up tempo number that will rock you, and have you singing along as well. Knights of the Realm, starts off with a great rockin’ riff, following through into the verse. It will remind you of Iron Maiden at times, a great track for sure, with blistering solos. Onward we’re greeted with the track, So Be It. I really like the tone of the guitars on this song. It’s beefy but clear, allowing the notes to cut through. The accompanying vocal track adds to it a great deal, an all around great tune. Next up is the song, Trouble. I want to start off by saying that, this is probably my favorite vocal on the album, due to its gritty, high noted wailing and great energy in his voice. Ending off Medieval Metal Too, we have what can only be described as a better produced version of Keeper of The Flame. As stated before, this is the one that appears on Metal Massacre VIII. A better produced track, which is understandably so. In closing, if you enjoy such acts as Saxon, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden you will eat up Overlord SR. I personally think it’s a great album, something you could throw on, crank up and enjoy a few drinks too.
