Black Keys was the first song I ever wrote and recorded in a professional studio. For my thirteenth birthday, my parents surprised me by taking me to a local recording studio in St. Pete Florida to record one of my little songs. At twelve years old with a mouth full of braces, this was even more magical than taking a trip to Disney World for my birthday..we were not planning on pursuing my career in music, but only recording my song to share with close friends and family. Shortly after recording this song, we received several calls from the studio saying that they loved this song and my voice and they asked if they could have our permission to send Black Keys to some people in the industry in LA. Of course, my dad refused this offer, but after begging him to let me pursue my dream, he finally let them send the song. While I was still twelve years old, I went to New York and was blessed to meet with Nick Canon, who gave me the absolute best advice for a young aspiring artist. Within the next few months, Allison, a sweet family friend in the industry in Nashville, listened to my song and met with my family and I, affirming that I should pursue music. I began to take trips to Nashville to write more songs and continue to progress on my musical journey. There's a common saying, that I can now apply to my life, "If you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans," three years ago, I thought I was going to be a lawyer and music was just a distant dream. However, God was probably laughing at the idea of me becoming a lawyer...I am so humbled by all of the love and support from my family, fans, and colleges. YOU all are amazing. I cannot thank you enough! xo- Maggie
