Max Zero book club
Any of you dorks know how to read? I've been perusing classics, because my job involves a lot of downtime, and they're free in the Nook store. Tale of Two Cities was good. It was kind of hard to get a sense of continuity, or to know who the characters were, because I kept reading it in two-page bursts, but there is some really good imagery, like when the people drink spilt wine from the streets, or when the rich guy has four different people to prepare his chocolate, while the rest of the country starves. Moby Dick isn't as dense as people make it out to be so far. Cannibal guy and Ishmael are like best friendships that you see on TV. No one really likes each other that much.

Shows So Far
Here's how our shows have gone so far:
Calypso Bar and Grill: 1st show, total bust. Drove three hours to play for an older crowd who mostly hated us! Dave Johnson was cool though, and his drummer is really good. Went down well with the guys in the kitchen/wait staff.
County Grill - Incredible show, as always at this place. Big turnout, went down a riot, and they cut me a check for $250 on top of the door money! It was like Christmas. Best part: Watching Larchmont Trash empty out the place with their really well done Billy Childish esque rock and roll. They played for like an hour and I loved every song except one or two.
Mojo13: They didn't book any local acts, so turnout was somewhat limited. Good thing about this gig was getting additional gigs, and getting to play with El Fossil, who are incredible and invited me on their West Coast tour in October. Also I met my pal Blare who is a visual artist and has gotten us a weekend gig in Wilmington. Thanks guys.
the Republic - Other acts canceled, so poor Funzzle drove for hours to play to me, my pals the Khoury twins (you ARE twins), and one or two people at the bar. Still a fun show, and Kevin, the soundman, got me a weekend gig with his Weezer tribute band. Thanks Kevin. I submitted Funzzle's CD to WRIR - please play it so their trip wasn't a total waste, chaps
Durty Nelly's - probably the most successful show I have ever had. Not in terms of the size of the crowd, although turnout was respectable, but I made some money, and got three gigs out of it. Invited back to Nelly's, got a weekend show that pays $200+gas, and got a bachelorette party. They want me to wear a thong - I better hit the gym. Had a fun conversation with the drummer of Charlottesville's magnificent 40 Boys about garage rock, and many spanks to Gabe and Kevin for the enthusiasm and generous tips.

They've made basses with guitar-sized strings, but no one ever uses them.
