Folkapotamus Blog No. 2

As 2013 comes to a close, I was just thinking about the past year we have spent as a band and everything that we have to be grateful for. We may not have come far in the music world as a whole, but to us personally we have come a long way and accomplished much. Never as much as we would like to, but with the time constraints we have, I'll take it. Things I am grateful for: All the new friends and acquaintances we have met this past year, so many people who are so passionate about what they are doing! We got into a real, gen-u-ine, all professional-like recording studio where we made a demo cd and are continuing to work on our first full cd to be completed (hopefully) in March/April of 2014. I can't wait for it to be done, but I'm trying to relax and enjoy the process! (Tony is laughing as I say I am trying to relax) We attended our first NERFA conference! Wow, quite an experience. I kind of knew what to expect, but it went way beyond all my expectations. So many unbelievably talented muscians all in one space for four crazy days was just the best experience we could have asked for and gave me personally a lot of incentive to continue to work hard at being a better guitar player, singer, songwriter. Every person we met seemed to be nicer than the last (with the exception of one unnamed person who for some reason hates our name and made sure we knew it.) Extremely grateful to be able to work with our coach Vance Gilbert for most of this past year. He has helped us in every aspect of our music, made us laugh (a lot!), cry a few times, and overall has just been extremely supportive. Even when he's beating us up - mostly me as he and Tony seem to be having a bromance over their shared love of aviation - we love him dearly and value his guidance and friendship. And to everyone who came out to see us play, we sincerely thank you! Wishing all our friends and family the best year yet to come!!!

Hi, Penni here. I'm the "Folk" of Folkapotamus, Tony being the "Potamus" as he likes to say. It's been a really busy week for us. We've been rehearsing for our upcoming show in Concord on October 2 and also rehearsing for our recording session tomorrow morning. We will be recording the new song I wrote about my grandmother and also a couple of other songs. On Wednesday we had a session with our songwriting coach who FINALLY gave the thumbs up on the new song. This song took about 3 months to finish and went through many revisions, the first being literally tossed into the trash can by our coach!! So I was holding my breath as we played it for him on Wednesday. So with rehearsing, writing, regular jobs (yuk, but they allow us to do all the fun stuff) we've been really busy. On top of that we've been dealing with our beloved cat Mischa being pretty sick. Yesterday she finally started acting like her old self, so we're hoping to have her around a while longer. Until next time.....
