Yeah. That's why I've been so quiet lately. I haven't been able to write many songs lately because I found out that I'm a grown up now and I need to prepare myself for a career because my parents love me too much to hand everything to me and allow me to not finish school. And that is not sarcasm.
So I have been going to school full time, working three jobs and working with a new country band that is starting up in my area. Needless to say, I have had very little time to really do anything lately so unfortunately, no new songs have been created, no shows have been played and no sleep has been gotten :/
I totally wanted to be an adult when I wasn't but oh my goodness do I wish I was still a kid... Life's not easy when you have to work your butt off to get where you need to be.
These are seriously ROUGH demos of some of my songs but it has been so long since you have heard anything new that I figured I would spoil you with a bunch!! So check them out and let me know what you think! I will have these recorded in a non bedroom setting at some point, but I am really in a sharing mood and I want you to have the gift of songs, no matter how rough they are!
Hey! It's been a little while since I've been around due to the school and two jobs business, but plenty has been going on to hinder my progress in anything I've been trying to do... This is the first place I'm posting any of this news because you all got me to #3 in my area! Hell yeah! I appreciate all of you so much that I'm going to share some secrets with you! First order of business: I have radial nerve palsy, which has inhibited my ability to play guitar. Basically, my right wrist has been fairly unusable for about a month. But it's finally starting to get a lot better, so soon I will be back at it! Secondly, and this is the big one. I am no longer associated with Midwest Star Records, Midwest Star Talent Agency or any affiliated companies. The opportunities I got while I was working with them were wonderful and I had such a good time being able to sing for everyone. A big thank you to everyone who supported me at Summerfest, the MDA benefit in Oconomowoc, the national anthems I sang at two Milwaukee Wave games and my shows at the Racine and Green Lake county fairs! I really enjoyed being able to sing for you all, and I hope to be able to sing in a lot more venues in the future! So what I say does not have anything to do with any of the great experiences I got to have while working with these companies... How far do you have to go for things you say to be considered slander? I guess for now, we'll suffice it to say that the owner of Midwest Star Records and Talent Agency is not nearly as good as he makes himself out to be at what he does. The above mentioned appearances were all I was booked the entire two years we worked together. So I think it's safe to say that a "record deal" isn't all it's cracked up to be, kids. I would rather spend a lifetime writing and singing and listening to music that is real and that I believe in than be "famous" and deal with superficial cotton candy fluff. Music is art, and as an artist, its important to stand up for your art form and protect the integrity of your work! Don't let someone make your song sound like some terrible garage recording of something that sounds like it should be from an 80's movie soundtrack. I am happy to be working solo and with a few different bands and acoustic acts. I WILL BE SEEING YOU ALL SOON! 3 stay in touch to see my upcoming shows and news! And be sure to check my website www.rachaelmae.com for a full explanation of my life.
So I am literally assessing my life at this very moment in time, and I am SO HAPPY. Yesterday, I was sick and exhausted and had just had enough with everything, but today a few things came through and I'm pretty excited about it! So I start school next week and I started my new job this week which means at the start of next week I will be going to school full time and working two jobs. AND I will also be playing some shows with Southern Tradition and opening for Georgia Overdrive! And I will be sending some of my songs in to be checked out by someone pretty prevalent in the music industry... :D I am going to be insanely busy but I am so excited that music gets to be a part of what's on my agenda for the coming months.
Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who has stuck through these super slow times and is still supporting me! 3 You All!!
So things are probably going to slow down a bit while I get readjusted to being back in school but I've still got a few exciting things coming up for the summer! Hopefully in a few weeks we will begin shooting the video for "I Don't Have To Stay" and let's all cross our fingers that someday I actually get an album recorded... :) Thank you all for your patience and support! I've got so much love for every single one of you who has ever supported my dream!!
So if you're going to be in the Union Grove area in Wisconsin today, you should come out to the Racine County Fair and check out my show! Give me some feedback. I'll post up videos hopefully next week, but really, I want some feedback from everybody. This isn't exactly the kind of show that I would normally play, so any constructive stuff you'd have to say would be appreciated :)
As embarrassing as it is, I suppose I need to start embracing who I am. And this is it, folks. I am a crazy 20 year old girl who writes songs about my life because its the only way that I can tell people how I feel. One of the very few times that you will catch me with my guard down is when I'm singing one of my songs. They are completely honest, and essentially a journal of my life over the past couple of years. I've had to wade through a fair amount of shit in these couple of years, so I would sincerely appreciate if y'all could give me a chance and see if any of my songs make your speakers go "boom boom" or your man go "mhmmmmm"
Yep, that was absolutely a Luke Bryan reference.
So check it out! www.thebuzzbar.com click on "Watch Now" for Live Music Mondays and I'm Rachael Hildebrandt (yeah, they used my Norwegian name because they love me)
Soooooo I have played some of my original songs here and there all spaced out and willy nilly but on Monday, the culmination of my hard work is all going to start coming together!
Explanation? I am going to be performing ALL of my album tracks at one time, and you'll get to hear the stories behind them. This is the first time I've ever done this and I'm so happy I get to share all of my songs with the good folks down at Buzz Bar. I wouldn't be doing this anywhere else :)
So stay tuned because the live show will be recorded and I will be posting video clips of it!
My website www.rachaelmae.com is now up and running smoothly and up to date again. Check it out and let me know what you think!
Also, as hard as it may be (and on a completely unrelated note to my website), you need to try to appreciate the tumultuous times in life. They will be difficult and will most likely lead you to your breaking point but especially if you are a musician, the worst things in life can lead to the best music you will ever make. Regardless of whether or not you are a musician, those times will make you stronger and teach you a lot about yourself. There's my rant for the day. Have fun with your Thursday, kids!
There are going to be a lot of things changing very soon! I am re-doing my entire website, getting videos of my performances up and letting you guys hear some of my new songs. I've been "in the process" of recording an album and making a music video for about a year now, so I've decided to ACTUALLY get started recording my album and making a music video for I Don't Have To Stay.
You're going to start seeing a new Rachael Mae, so get ready. We are switching gears.
