In Feb 2012 Art:In:Exile continued playing live shows including travelling to NSW for Chaos ACT IV - Australia's Capital Metalfest featuring headliner Aeon Of Horus plus Alarum, Alpine Fault & many other class metal acts from around Australia. June 2012 saw us support once again the very talented Ne Obliviscaris with Truth Corroded & Black Orchid, at Enigma Bar, Adelaide. Then in November 2012 we played in THE NEW DEAD #3 – Metalfest Adelaide, again with many other awesome metal bands from around the country including BeLakor & Truth Corroded. Sadly that was our last show with guitarist Rocco. Art:In:Exile will miss the huge role Rocco held in the band and will always appreciate and respect his time with us.
The new year 2013 brings an exciting change with the addition of new guitarist Clive Wetton known from previous Adelaide band Nocturnes Mist. He has already proven to be a worthy member and we look forward to working on new recordings and continuing our live set with him. Stay tuned! MeTaL oN
Greetings, all. On the 1st Dec 2008, we began laying down tracks for our 1st full-length album. Entitled 'Aeon Somnia', it contains ten tracks of Art:In:Exile at their best. Running the full spectrum of music, from industrial (Sober Optic), to melodic death (Signs Of Anti-life), to ambient (Anaesthetise), to extreme (Aeon Somnia) to classic metal (Quarantine). The band has spent its time refining the sound with Andy Kite from Against the Grain Studios, and Jens Bogren from Fascination Street in Sweden (Opeth, Katatonia, Swallow The Sun), producing a wall of crushing metal, swirling melodies, and soaring vocals. Mel's voice is at the peak of perfection, crisp and clean singing paired with guttural growling tones. The rhythm section of Tim and Leni has locked down the foundations, as well as shifting into new areas for the band. Keyboards are not only a part of this foundation, but Matt also provides the transcendent & ethereal focus across the musical divide. And the guitar intricacies loom large in the development of the new release, with Stuart & Rocco shading the music with progressive musical sensibilities. Truly the pinnacle of all their careers to date! The album is set for a Nov. 13th 2009 release date, with the CD Launch show on the same day at The Enigma Bar on Hindley St. City( Adelaide). Joined by extremists 'In The Burial', melodic metal from 'Satoria', and newcomers 'Wasted Elegance', the band is set to prove they are truly unique in not only Adelaide's, but also the Australian Metal Scene. However, for those not content to wait for the launch show, the CD will be available on the bands MySpace site, with payment via PayPal. Check out the tracks posted online, and prepare for 'Aeon Somnia' to be unleashed!
DB MAGAZINE REVIEW ~ JAMES McKENZIE ~ ISSUE439 Art In Exile's music is an absolute collision of styles. Dark, brooding passages give way to frenetic breakdowns. Disconcerting tempo shifts are complemented by wonderful hooks. In the live environment they prove to be a challenging but exhilarating proposition. Mel Bulian is a dynamic and occasionally intimidating front person as she by turns sings, screams and growls. Utterly engrossing, their unique brand of 21st century schizoid metal is lapped up by the crowd.
Rock3 UK 4/6/2008 Ep Review 80% Bringing an Australian energy and vibe to what is ostensibly an experimental sound, utilising math rock, Industrial metal and gothic darkness and this is just the first song! .. the second track 'Behind the Eyes' steadies down a little with Mel sounding like 'Siouxse' on top form and a dark vibe permeating the song like a stain in the bath 'Behind The Eyes' displays an extraordinary powerful song sometimes math and sometimes Industrial metal but with Mel's strong vocals setting the complex moods. We return to the incoherence of the first song with 'Spitting Thorns In A Comatose' with the third song on this four track EP, perhaps incoherent is too strong a word, perhaps experimental alternative. The fourth song again like the second tune has proper structure and allows the band to express themselves within a tight unit and as with 'Behind The Eyes' real quality is on display and at seven minutes long the song has enough twists and turns to satisfy the diverse elements of the bands inspirations.
We are pleased to announce that our EP is set to be re-released worldwide through UK label Casket Music on June 30th 2008! There has been a lot of legwork that has gone into this and we would definitely like to thank Jose and Casket Music for the opportunity to expose our music to the rest of the world. The re-release will feature awesome new packaging by the talented Becky at Against The Grain, so all of you diehards, and anyone else for that matter, can pick up your copy through PlasticHead online distribution at www.plastichead.com. through our MySpace and shortly our new website.
