14 Fires

14 Fires is dedicated to the memory of Estienne Mangin, who was burned at the stake along with 13 others. His offense was attempting to establish a reformed church and preaching gospel in Meaux ( near modern day Paris), an area which was dominated with an iron hand by the pope and Catholic hierarchy of the day. In the face of physical torture and threats of death, the 14 refused to flee, yield their position, or compromise their faith. This inspired me to write this song, and reaffirms my admiration for those who are willing to stand for what they believe, no matter the consequence.

lots more fans

I had seemed to reach a standstill in my fans, then all of a sudden, many more came on board. More than I was able to keep up with this past week, actually. In fact, fan #100 came and went so quickly I was not able to properly commemorate the occasion. So thank you, 100th fan, whoever you are !

not autobiographic

"bruise" was the last tune I completed before going on a 10 - year writing hiatus. The inspiration came after being forced to watch Lifetime network for an evening. Some guy (a Barry Bostwick type character) was controlling the woman (a Merideth Baxter Birney type) with his mind, rendering her helpless to free herself from his grip. As stated earlier : NOT AUTOBIOGRAPHIC ! I thought a sample of Fred Flintstone saying "honey, I'm home" wouldve been awesome, but I'm too cheap to pay for the licensing.

oops

I should mention that my good friend Billy Pilgrim of T.N.G.played bass on "Real".

blog, act I

The tunes were recorded on a Fostex 80 reel above Allens garage. I dumped what I had done to digital after being overcome with worries about tape degradation. I then did the vocals, leads, and any other icing on the cake and mixed on the new machine. I have newer songs I will put up as I finish them.
