It was an SRO crowd that greeted me at the Olmos. My band, Young & Restless, was in rare form as we kicked the event off with "Waitin' On Willie," then ran thru several songs from "Under the Texas Radar." At one point we rocked harder when joined by bluesman Ruben V. This was a concert, not just another bar gig! We ended the show with a re-cap of "A Long Ride." Indeed, it has been.
That's me gang, flying under the Texas radar, coming in low over the music horizon to make my mark on the Texas scene. My CD, "Under the Texas Radar" arrives this week and will be available at my upcoming shows (Scenic Loop Cafe, April 21; Barriba Cantina, April 22). The album offers 15 original songs that range from toe-tappers such as "A Long Ride" to Cajun waltzes like "Wild Cajun Heart" to a Christmas song ("Yuletide By the Poolside") that features amigo Augie Meyers on Vox Continental organ. The CD also features members of the award-winning bluegrass outfit TVA; Grammy nominated guitarist Sergio Lara; blues rocker Ruben V.; and country legend George Chambers, among others. Most of the material was penned after my move from Nashville back home to San Antonio 3 years ago. The CD is $10 local; $12 if I have to mail it. Some of the song clips can be heard on this site as well as at www.ronyoung.com.
