Mental Toughness

If you follow me on Twitter (@sarahbrownmusic) you will see me post the phrase "Mental Toughness" a lot. it's a term that I hear in my Crossfit workouts, and it is used to reminds us that we are capable of more than we THINK that we are. By building our mental capacity to believe in ourselves, we can achieve things that we might have thought were impossible. It's also reminds us that the road to achieving goals is tough, and uncomfortable, but it is the ability to push through the discomfort that helps mold us. How comfortable can you be with being uncomfortable? When that discomfort lessens, can you push yourself to the next level? I am really striving this year to be UNCOMFORTABLE because if I only do the things that I am comfortable with I will never grow.

Updates!

Hey Friends! It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd pop in to say hi and give you a few updates. My single "My Desire" is almost finished, and I can't wait for you to hear it! Tomorrow I'm doing a photo shoot for the song with my friend Michael Ernst of Bostic Photography. I know it's been a while since I put out new material, but good things are worth the wait, I promise ;) Besides that, I've been writing some new songs, and I'm planning to play one of them at my round at Hotel Indigo this month, so if you're in Nashville come out and listen :)

That's all for now!

Hunger....

How hungry are you? I'm not talking about food, I'm talking about the desires you have for your life... There's no question that we all have dreams and desires for our lives, the question is "How hungry are you to make it happen?" How hard are you willing to work, and what are you willing to sacrifice to get there? The thing about hunger is, when you give it a little taste of what it wants, you crave it even more. Just when I feel like giving up on my dreams, I'll have a show, or a comment on my page that reminds me why I do what I do, and it wakes the hunger up inside me again. Don't deny those feelings, and don't give up when life gets hard. There's a reason why that hunger was given to you in the first place...there's a purpose and a plan for your life....follow it, listen to it, and never give up on it.

Older and Wiser

Yesterday was my birthday, and this year I spent it in Texas with my brother and his family. If you would have asked me what I wanted to do 5 or 6 years ago I would have said that I wanted to go out, party, and be crazy. It's amazing what a few extra years, a few more experiences, and a few life changes can do for your outlook on life. The older I get, the more I realize how important my family is to me. They know my past, they share my present, and support me in my future goals. They've seen the worst and the best in me, and love me all the same. And, even though we may live hundreds of miles apart, they're never farther than a phone call, or skype chat away :) Sometimes, it can be hard facing the idea of "getting older," but the trade off is far better than eternal youth. It's the understanding that love, and life is meant to be shared and experienced together. So, as I start another year of life I look forward to all the new things it will teach me, and all the love I will share along the way :)

Oh Life....

The thing about life is that it is great at throwing curve balls. The best thing we can do is "just go with it." Today, as I was running around doing errands, I decided to stop and fill up my tires with some air, and of course because it's me, I somehow find a way to break off the valve on my tire as I'm filling it with air and consequently drain all the air from my tire leaving me stranded in a less than desirable area of town (lol). Then, I have my fiance come rescue me to put on my spare tire (I know, typical girl can't fix a tire). He succesfully got the car jacked up, but we were on this really awkward slant and as we were getting the spare the car rolled off the jack!!! Terrible!! However, as that happened some good samaritan came out of nowhere with a floor jack who helped us and got my spare tire on in like 2 minutes. He was very nice and extremely helpful. It really lifted my spirits. With all the negative news and all the bad things happening in our communities it's good to be reminded that there are good people in the world willing to help each other out :) so thank you mister car jack guy...you made a good ending out of a bad situation. I know I'm going to spend more time this year "paying it forward." I hope you do too :)

On a side note, My lead vocals for my new single are recorded and I'm going back in this week to do backgrounds (yay!) One step closer to releasing new music.

Happy New Year Y'all!! :)

Studio!

Hello Friends!

I am so happy to tell you all that I am finally back in the studio making new music and I can't wait for you all to hear. For those of you that have come to my live shows, it will be a familiar song :) I am so blessed to have the opportunity to do any of this, and I can't wait to share it with you. While I'm at it, I have to give a shout out to my amazing producer, Brandon Fraley....he gets my vision, and is extremely talented (Makes me sound GOOOOOD) lol!!

Aside from the studio, I've been working on some new songs, and I'm recording another youtube cover tomorrow....after that, I'm going to relax and see family for Christmas Break (I hope you get a chance to visit with family/friends as well).

See you soon!

4-legged Friend

Hi Friends,

I've been spending most of my time the last 48 hours taking care of my cat "Miss Kitty" (I know, really original name). I LOVE cats, and if I didn't have my fiance Sean, I would probably turn into a cat lady; a music writing, soul singin' Cat Lady, yup, that would be me. Anyway, I love having pets and I think of them as family members, so when our cat got an infection and needed surgery I knew I'd be spending most of my time caring for her over the next few days/weeks. This morning we took a little trip to Petco to buy her some things to make her more comfortable like her own litterbox and a nice comfy cat bed. She has to wear this giant "Cone of doom" around her neck to keep her from licking the wound and she really hates it, but other than that she seems to be getting more comfortable. Needless to say, I've been pre-occupied, so I may be re-scheduling my next youtube cover recording to next week (I hope you understand). On a good note, my producer is working hard on my new single and I can't wait for you all to hear it. Hope y'all have a great weekend!!

By Faith

Hello Friends!

I just got back from a really great service this morning, enjoying the weather and looking forward to the Thanksgiving break :) Today, we started a new series called "by Faith".....I love this message, especially as a musician, because there are so many decisions we have to make in life and sometimes the answer isn't always clear. Sometimes, things happen, whether good or bad, that we can't explain, and it's only by faith that we continue on our path. "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen." I believe it takes real bravery and full surrender to live by that kind of faith...It's something I want strive for everyday. I may not know all the right things to do or say, and sometimes I may be lost, or confused, not knowing what the next day will bring me, but I have faith.

Seasons of Love

Hi Friends!

I just got home from a very fun bachelorette party for one of my dear friends....I noticed that I have been going to A LOT of bridal/bachelorette parties/weddings lately. I've finally reached that phase in life where all my friends are getting married, and before I know it they're all going to be having kids. Even I am in the midst of planning a wedding (which gives me an excuse to spend countless hours on Pinterest...Sooo addicting!!) Anyway, in honor of this "Season of love" for so many in my life, I'm going to share one of my favorite songs that I've written....hope you like it, I hope to having a recording of it for you in the future :)

"Alright" By Sarah Brown

The day is peaking through my window the breeze is sinking in my skin and when I think about you I know there's something good about to begin

The cares of life are rolling easy curled all up underneath the trees we're catching leaves like they are money our dreams are painted up in green

and it feels alright this young an innocent kind of life it feels alright when you are standing by my side it feels, it feels alright

Let's take a train into the city and dance to music to the night you'll whisper to me I look pretty and that I'm yours for life

and it feels alright this young an innocent kind of life it feels alright when you are standing by my side it feels, it feels alright

There is nothing no one can say to make me run away cause it feels, it feels alright

There is nothing no one can say to make me run away cause it feels, it feels alright
