Put Yo Phone Down!

I recently release a new original hip-hop rap joint called "Put Yo Phone Down!" It's got a funky banging beat I made and wrote lyrics for.

The song highlights our modern addiction to cell phones and social media over-shares--a combination likely to be the biggest human distraction of all time. Can you put it down?

Life is short...so don't let it pass you by while gazing at the glow of your phone! Take a walk outside, a good look around...it's time to pay attention, so "Put Yo Phone Down!"

NOTE: Please LIKE, SHARE...immediately before putting your phone down! LOL :-)

Thanks again and one love my peeps, OXOXO ~Colette

Auditioning for NBC's The VOICE

I'm happy to finally see a show that is LISTENING to singers' VOICES to determine who gets through, rather than judging people based on how fat, skinny, young, old, black, white, cute, ugly, straight, or gay they might LOOK...or actually be.

Physical judgements do, of course, come into play later in the show, but at least through the blind auditions the celebrity judges have their backs to performers and only turn around if they like what they hear. Preliminary auditions, like the one I'm about to do, are recorded but only to determine who makes the cut for next season's show.

I'm singing a Capella to some producers this weekend at the LA Convention Center on Saturday, March 31. The venue changed yesterday from the Burbank Marriott near the airport, where I was booked to stay, so it was a bit stressful changing my hotel and having to rent a car in the eleventh hour--lesson #1 in letting go!

I'm in the early morning crew singing between 7am-2pm (a cable guy window), so I'll need to get some STRONG coffee and start warming up with the early birds...when the truth is, I'm a night owl. :-(

I'm flying down Friday from Oakland to check-in to my hotel, check-out the venue, and try to sleep.

I'm nervous and confident all at once--like a roller coaster ride--because I understand that I need to WOW these producers, judging my originally-stylized a Cappella versions of Bob Dylan's "Make you feel my Love," covered by Adele on the 19 album, and/or Marvin Gaye's "Heard it through the Grapevine."

I think they tell you right away if they like you or not, but even that's not clear, so I've decided that no matter what happens, I'm proud of myself for trying. I'm also proud of the love and support I receive daily from friends and family, who inspire me and remind me who I am--regardless of the outcomes of this experience!

Look for LIVE updates on Facebook @ Colette Washington and/or on Twitter @Rock4Justice from ground zero in LA this Saturday, March 31. Fingers and toes crossed...on a wing and a prayer...

Love and gratitude my peeps,

~Colette
