Recording, CD release shows...
Happy New Year! 2013 is looking to be a great year for music in Ohio and all over the US.
We're almost finished recording the new album.. just putting some final touches on it and then it will be sent out to The Magic Shop in NYC for mixing and mastering. Chris Hanna and I have several duo shows coming up over the next month, including an opening slot for The Deadstring Brothers (Detroit, MI) at the Beachland Tavern.
The Thor Platter Band CD release shows are set for Buffalo and Cleveland. Cleveland is Friday April 5th at Brother's Lounge. We'll be supported by Rob Duskey & The Rounders, and Erica Blinn & The Handsome Machine. Check out sweettruthrecords.com for more info on that show. For the Buffalo show, we'll have a full announcement in the next few weeks, but I can tell you it is going to be Sunday April 7th, at a very cool venue. Stay tuned for that announcement.
Chris and I will be making our way back down to Columbus soon as well.
And another quick note... I've been asked quite a few times now "So, what's up with the Whiskey Lock" Just wanted to respond and let you know The Whiskey Lock is still together.. our talented bass player, Trish, is expecting her first baby at the end of this month.. so we'll be on a break for several more months. We do have plans to record a full length CD follow up to last year's "Flight" EP.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy 2013!
Recording, Columbus and Beer...
September was a great month musically. I was able to play a bunch of great shows with The Whiskey Lock, and some great duo gigs with my friend Chris Hanna. Chris and I will be playing a few shows over the next month including Friday the 26th at World Of Beer in Columbus, OH. I can't wait to try some of the 500 beers they have. The next day, The Whiskey Lock is playing Brewzilla , a finale celebration to Cleveland Beer Week. It's going to be great exposure for The Whiskey Lock. There will be over 80 breweries serving beer to the 3000 people that attend every year... So the weekend is going to be pretty full of beer. In November, I'm going to start recording my first full length solo album. My good friend Matt from Buffalo was nice enough to offer to come help me set up my studio for a band recording, and will also be playing drums on most of the tracks. I 'll have a few friends playing on this album including Brent Kirby, G.S. Harper, Chris Hanna and Billy Crompton will be playing bass on most of the tracks. G.S. Harper and Rob Duskey got me hip to Billy C. I can't wait to have him in the studio since he's recently moved back to CLE from Chicago. I'll be updating the blog as we get into the recording process. The scheduled release will be in April, and we'll be having a CD release show at Brother's Lounge with Rob Duskey & The Rounders (Thanks Rob!)
After November, The Whiskey Lock is taking a "winter break" as Trish has a new baby on the way.. so it's the perfect time to focus on other projects. We hope to get into the studio sometime next spring and record a full length album for release in the fall of 2013.
Stay tuned for more updates.
The weekend ahead...
I've got a great weekend of music coming up. Friday night I'm playing at the Kent State Folk Festival with The Whiskey Lock. Check the website for more details. And Saturday night a big party at Jammy Buggars in Lakewood. I have some friends coming in from out of town, including my good friend Joe Peluso, who will be sitting in on drums. the Thor Platter band starts at 9pm with the great Chris Hanna on keyboards, Mr. G.S. Harper on bass guitar and the previously mentioned Mighty Joe Peluso. It's going to be a blast, hope to see you there.
Stay tuned!
End of Summer..
I can't believe we're coming to the end of August. September is a very busy month for both my solo music, and The Whiskey Lock stuff. TWL Is playing 4 shows in September including a trip to Columbus, and the Cleveland Garlic Festival.
Some highlights in September... Chris Hanna, Ben Neives and myself will be playing at The Treehouse in Tremont on Sunday Sept 2nd. Should be a great gig. 9pm start.
Chris Hanna and I have 2 Thursday night duo shows at the new Bar Louie in Westlake (Crocker Park) on the 6th and 27th.
I get to play at Jammy Buggars (Lakewood) twice in September. On the 7th, the great Michael Bay joins me for an 8:30pm start. And the big event at Jammy Buggars on Saturday September 22nd... The Thor Platter band @ Jammy Buggars. This will be a night before party for the Bills vs. Browns game the next day. We have some folks coming in from out of town, you won't want to miss this show.
Check out thewhiskeylock.com for our September dates, including the Kent State Folk festival.
I also have a new Cleveland "super-group" project in the works with some close musical friends... more info on that coming later this year!
Here's to a safe summer (what's left of it) and fall. See you at a show.
