I wrote this back in 2008. It is football season. So here is my football story. FLYING LAWN MOWER
The year 2008 was a very good year for BILLY BAND. I finished my CD,I was played on a bunch of internet radio stations, I had a very nice review on a website sucrepop.com in FRANCE, and even had a feature article in some New Jersey News papers. Not bad for someone who has absolutely no contacts in the music business. Still I’m left with an empty feeling. I know that I am not the only one with this dilemma. I have been amazed at the talent I have discovered on MySpace. I’m in very good company! How do you take it to the next level? In my case it’s an even more daunting task. I’m not a band, I’m just a songwriter who believed enough in his music to get into a studio and after many hours and much treasure spent and may I add with the help of some fine musicians and a great studio came out with a pretty good product What are my chances of my songs ever being heard by a substantial group of people? This question has brought me back to a real life experience I had in 1979. I was attending a New York Jet football game at Shea Stadium and during the halftime show there was no band playing. They had a club that flew toy model planes by remote control. The first two guys came out and flew their planes around the stadium with no incident. The third guy came out with a flying lawn mower. Yes! No kidding a flying lawnmower!! It was a regular push lawn mower that had a propeller on it. Well the guy flew this around the stadium twice and on the third time around it went up up up and crashed into the crowd directly across from where I was sitting. Again this really happened!!! It killed one man and injured another. Imagine being the first man in the history of the world to be killed by a flying lawn mower. What does this have to do with my music?? IT COULD HAVE BEEN ME! So did I have a better chance of being killed by a flying lawn mower or having my music become very successful? Food for thought huh? Let’s all hope 2009 is a great year for all of us. Bill P.S if you don't believe me. Just plug in killed by flying lawn mower on your computer.
