I can't believe it! I have dropped from NUMBER 1 in the reverbnation ranks (for Eugene, OR) to NUMBER 6?!? This just won't do;) I didn't even know I cared so much... but I guess that sort of internet validation is important to me, so I'll post some new content today and you all spread it around for me and get people to visit me here on the good 'ol internets and maybe all will be right with the indie-folk world again - ha!
Had such a BLAST playing the shows in LA this weekend! Thanks to all of you who showed up to support, it means the world to me to have such an incredible group of friends and fans... I feel so lucky... Special thanks to Room 5, The Silverlake Lounge and all the little kiddos out in Pasadena for jammin' out with us... Thanks to Christina and Ian for recording the shows (maybe a bootleg cd will come out of it, eh?) and for the drinks! Biggest thanks of all to Tony Sancho and Liz Scully for being so wonderful to play with and for being the baddest of all Bad Wagon! -Cheers KB
So... Coco is my Friend JulieAnn's sweet pup who loves everyone... Except it seems the drunk loud man at my show. Now I often play bars where the drinks are a flowin' and I'm usually down to fend off a few annoying and harmless dudes (mostly) who've had a few too many and need to show off by giving someone on a stage (me) a hard time. But this guy gave off a different vibe... yes he was loud and drunk and rude... but he was also strange in a way that made me sad very sad and a angry in a little kid way. After the show he kept touching me and telling me I "crushed" him "destroyed" him and that I "didn't even know how deep it was" .... Creepy right and as you can imagine... I didn't know what to do... At about this point. Coco the wonder pup did what needed to be done... he barked and went after him. Yea Coco! He did exactly what I wanted to do all evening... he gave that creeper the what for and let him know it wasn't okay to take up so much space and be so aggressive with me, just because I happened to be up there playing doesn't give you any more ownership over my time or space... I guess my points if I have any are these... 1) Coco is smarter that me, I wish I could be just like him. 2) If you're drunk at a bar don't hassle the entertainment... it hard to be up there alone, and remind yourself I am up there trying to make people feel good... what are you doing? 3) next time someone gives me the creeps, I'm gonna bark a 'um!! Ah...Life Lessons... Thanks to all you amazing folks who came out and made the show so much fun! I can't wait to come back! -Cheers
"...If Ani Difranco and Bonnie Raitt found themselves trapped at the Iowa state fair you might get a little Kate Brown... What I'm saying is...Deep fried twinkie - Cheers..." Yep. That's my festival submission blurb about myself!
Wherever you go, there you are! Well since I haven't posted on my lill' blog in a million years I thought it was long past time to do so.... My comings and goings have led me from sunny West Hollywood to the cozy (and sometimes wet) peaks and valleys of the Pacific Northwest. Eugene, OR USA not as many pretend movie stars to gawk at, but a fine place to find fun!! I got a whole new beautiful personal (oooohhh personal eh?) life budding these days but have been properly focused on making lots of music and spreading it around while I'm here...I been playing tons, enjoying my new digs and discovering some of the best free range earth friendly vegan organic food and goods I've ever seen (it's a mecca). Of course wander I am, I look forward to coming and going (guitar and suitcase in hand) from this cozy spot for a bit playing shows from Seattle to LA and maybe a trip this summer back to the mid-west and Chi-Town with a quick stop to see my very very missed pals in Bolder?.... Big plans... Help me make these tour dreams really real by spreading not only my music, but music and art and creativity in general. The more people have access to wide free creative expression...the more valued it will be in our big, amazing, every busy, changing world. Thanks to all you fine folks for supporting and encouraging me. literally couldn't do a thing without ya!
Well I did it! I made the leap. I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. If you know good music venues or people I should hook up with, hit me! This place is motivating and inspiring and threatening and wild... I can't wait to discover everything there is to do and see and pretend to be here... and I mean everything! To Do List: Dye Hair, Get Tattoos, Leather Pants... Its gonna be a big day
Here's the skinny I have 3 great shows coming up. Friday, Jan 27th at the looseleaf lounge in Chicago. Sunday, Jan 29th at the Uncommon Ground on Clark in Chicago and Wednesday, Feb 1st at the Red Rock Tavern in Fairfield, IA If you are in Chicago and can make one of the shows... Get your but to Uncommon Ground! How can you help you say? 1-be there! 2-tell your friends to be there! 3-post stuff on all your social media outlets and help strangers/awkward acquaintances be there! Thanks and big sloppy kisses in 2012 Kate
Well I got what I wanted this year! Yep, I'm all done recording my scrappy little demo of all new original music. Now all I have to do is wait for Santa (the amazing Richey Clark) to deliver it to me all mixed and sounding cool.
*Seriously this is the time of year when we get weepily great full for all the good in our lives. I have a lot to be great full for. Right now I'm thinking specifically about all the wonderful people over the years who have helped me turn the little tunes in my head into real songs for people to listen to and, hopefully, enjoy... this holiday season I raise my glass to you!!! You know who you are...
So... Today I will (hopefully) be recording the last of the 6 songs to go on my brand new demo/ep thing. Richey Clark the amazing engineer/drummer/base player/ viola player extraordinaire has helped me turn these little ditty's into full on tunes, and It's so exciting! I have yet to figure out what to do with this little display of creativity. I think it's gonna be a good fun tool to just get some music out and help book some shows. One thing I DO want to do is make a music video... so if any of you fine folk have a suggestion for what song you'd like to see acted out mini-movie style let me know. The new tunes should be mastered and ready to post on RN in just a few weeks so keep your ears tuned in and I'll let ya know. -Whoop it up!
A few nights ago a new friend of mine took me to see some great musicians at this bar called CODA in Kansas City. Jason Vivione and Company. I went in talked about music for a few, and a half hour later I was on stage playing some of my own tunes with some incredibly talented musicians in front of one of the warmest crowds ever. These people welcomed me on to their stage and played with me without ever having heard me before. It was generous and joyful and inspiring. I am constantly amazed by the joy we all can give each other if we all move over just a little bit. I'm so grateful to have had that experience and so awed by the artistic spirit that flows so freely from so many artists out there. -Thank you
