The Blues needs to evolve to stay alive. I hear too many blues purists preaching about how a song doesn't sound the same as Muddy Waters or Sonny Boy Williamson. Don't get me wrong, Muddy and Sonny Boy were terrific pioneers. But, they took the blues music given to them from Charlie Patton and Blind Lemon Jefferson to the next level and put their own sound on it. I sadly see very few bands doing anything new to the Blues given to us by Muddy, Sonny, Little Walter, etc. A lot has happened in 60 years. I challenge the music community to grow this genre. What do you think?
