Nothin' But the Blues Showcase

Lucy Hammond has returned to her roots with a new CD, 'Proof' that we will be tracking this coming Tuesday evening over on The Mix radio. She had spent many years as a traveling blues artist and after 17 years she has returned to the scene. The new CD, 'Proof' is an amazing album that on the Roots Music Charts as number 1 and continued to chart on the top 10 for twelve weeks and we will be tracking the CD as well as talking with Lucy on the air. She is currently back in the studio producing a cross genre collaboration series on the northwest blues uprising, first EP of six songs due out later this year. This is one lady you do not want to miss. Join us at 8 PM EST on January 14th over on Mixposure.com/mix_radio/ when you will be treated to an amazing blues artist and her music. http://www.mixposure.com/mix_radio/

The Showcase of Independent Artists

The Showcase of Independent Artists that I have been doing over on Facebook for the last two plus years now has a regular Tuesday evening radio show on Mixposure Radio ( http://www.mixposure.com/ ) beginning at 8 PM EST. We kicked it all off last week on the radio with a show that absolutely kicked butt and ran overtime into the eleven o'clock hour. What a great time and sad to say we crashed the chat room at the same time. There was so much activity and it just couldn't handle the throng of dedicated artists and fans. This has been a dream since I started the original showcase oh so long ago. Now we have an avenue where folks don't have to click links and keep up with it all that way. All you have to do is tune in and pull up a chair, grab a cup-a-joe or your favorite beverage and listen .... I have some big plans for this show including interviews, tracking full new CD's by the artists and so much more. You will just have to stay tuned to the radio. This is big guys and we can have our own page on the site as well to upload the music we love so much and the DJ's will download it for a 24-7 broadcast schedule as well as nightly live shows. So, come on over and see what the excitement is all about. Join me on the air and let's support all the independent artists out here. Music is the muse, Doug Dickens PS The Facebook showcase continues on Saturday evening as well and starts at 6:30 PM EST with the warm up of one artist's videos from YouTube followed by an hour of showcase posts from Reverbnation. https://www.facebook.com/douglas.dickens2 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Doug-Dickens/129082457174626

INDEPENDENT ARTIST SHOWCASE ON MIXPOSURE RADIO

Independent Artists Showcase on Mixposure Radio.

October 1, 2013 at 8:00 PM EST

For the past two years, I have been doing a showcase of independent artists over on my Facebook Timeline (https://www.facebook.com/douglas.dickens2) and Artist Page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Doug-Dickens/129082457174626). Each week I bring forward new artists that I have found on Reverbnation (http://www.reverbnation.com/dougdickens?profile_view_source=header_icon_nav) and post their music with a short introduction. This is not a review by any standard because I only want to share the wealth of the multitude of amazing talent that, for the most part goes unnoticed in our world of commercial junk that is forcefed to us by the corporate moguls in the entertainment business. No hard feelings here, but our world has changed with the vast power of the internet and I believe it is our time to shine. What is out there on the radio really does not compare to what we have to offer in the creative realm. I continue to do these showcases because of the networking possibilities for the artists as well as attracting new fans for their efforts. There is an event page on Facebook as well (https://www.facebook.com/events/339479352809389/). I am hoping to take this one step further here on Mixposure radio. Why here you say? Well, I really appreciate the site and the wonderful music that is already presented here as well as the fact that it is totally independent artists without the intrusion of established, mainstream talent. Not only that, but I really feel the love for music of all the artists here and as a new member here have found that there is no 'attitude' but nothing but support for us. It is also nice to have a place where we can set up our own pages. The combination of a viable radio station connected to a website for the artists and the all inclusiveness and cooperation is tantamount to the success of this venture. I want to thank all those here who have made me feel at home and look forward to creating a radio version of the Showcase of Independent Artists right here on Mixposure. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for making me feel at home. I hold Doug Dickens responsible for ruining my makeup this morning. I was eating breakfast, listening to his songs, and during "Southside," tears streamed down my face, carrying my mascara with them. I hope that helps describe the quality of Doug's music: His country blues songs pierce straight to the soul and make you question the way you are living your life. I was introduced to Doug's music when I first listened to "77 Raindrops" and was struck by the confident power of his guitar playing and the truth of his message. The philosophical, often melancholy poetry of his lyrics is intended to make a difference, not just to be window dressing. "Reflections on a Pinewoods Lake" (which was decades in the writing), "River of Sighs" and his cover of Ryan Bingham's "The Weary Kind" are among my favorites. Doug strongly supports the community of independent artists, and each week sponsors a Showcase of Independent Artists on his Facebook page. It was a blast for me to attend the Showcase earlier this month -- sign up to participate! Doug Dickens @dougdickens1

Showcase of Independent Artists

For the past year I have been on a journey to rediscover my musical roots out here and it has been one heck of a ride to say the least. It began when i got a new computer that allowed me to actually record my songs and to share them out in this great wide world of the internet. It was through this process that I began to meet other musicians and artists who have provided support and inspiration along the way. There are so many of them that it is hard to actually list them all but most of them know who I am talking about and I thank all of you for accepting me into your circle and giving me the support to bring my music to life. That was about a year ago in August that i started this. Eleven months ago, I decided that the process of just self advocating wasn't enough for me and choose to begin these showcases in order to spread the word out here that there is an incredible array of fantastic artists who really should get to know each other and have their music listened to by the mass public. Now, I know that i have no control over the mass public but this small corner here is what i do and it is growing. We are now in our eleventh month of showcases and folks still are joining us and sharing in the wonderful offerings of these musicians. I want to thank everyone who started with me here and all of you who have joined us during the showcases. The showcases take place on Saturday evenings over on my timeline and band page on Facebook. Please join us .....

Life is one of those things that we take for granted i fear. We also take our music for granted because it is mass shoveled to us through the powers that be, whether it be VH1, MTV, the Nashville or LA machinery or what not. One thing that we cannot take for granted are the number of independent artists out here in our world who pour their hearts and souls into their music only to have it fall on deaf ears because they have no outlet through the mass media. The internet has changed all that and it is time that we all learn to use this media to get heard and make a successful bid for our slice of the pie. It is possible through numbers and that is what this is all about. Gathering the forces of music and talent and let the chips fall where they may. This is just one small effort to help us to realise that all things are possible if we believe and never stop trying .... in the words of Barry Stevens .... Don't Push the River, It Flows by Itself. Namaste ....

Very cool what your doing Doug... the proliferation of musicians and singer song writers all over the planet is an explosion far greater than any of us could have ever anticipated via the internet and great forums like ReverbNation as a pipeline to communicate our art to one another! It is truly overwhelming, totally out of control and truly a beautiful thing... our art and music is continually evolving - the fine line between being heard for free via the web and protecting our copyrights as Paul Williams is our veracious protector of our art... Paul Wiliams is the President of ASCAP and he has appeared before the senate seeking assistance by lobbying and legislation in Washington DC... there have unfortunately been many cases where our copyright have been violated oversees in several countries where our music has been played on radio, TV and has been included in Film- the motion picture industry... without the permission of the artist who created the art and the artist is also obviously not being compensated monetarily ... hence, the art has literally been stolen... an extreme example of comparison would be like "Vincent Van Gogh" who never sold a single painting in his life... his art sold after his death and the painting "Irises" has been valued as the highest value painting at some $280 million dollars!
With the invention of the internet - "the cat's out of the bag" so to speak... our wold of art will never be the same....
Having said all of that; the world wide web is 'beautiful" wonderful medium .....
... as long as it it not used to steal from the artist... which includes you and I and all of the musicians, painters, poets, sculptors, architects, story writers and many others...

I am seriously remiss on keeping up with this blog Jerome. Sorry but it has not been too active and I just forgot about it. At any rate, the best way to reach me is over on Facebook where the showcase still is running on Saturday evenings from six to eight eastern time. You can catch all the posts from all of the showcases on my band page, Doug Dickens or tune in to my timeline as well as the page during the showcase to interact ... again sorry for not getting back to you back in Dec.

It can be so easy to become obsessed with song plays, stats numbers and the number of fans out here in the wide world of the internet; but, in reality, the only element that really counts for anything is the music and how people relate to it. What you say in the lyric and the capacity to share it in a melody is paramount to the success you have for folks to relate to it in their own life and experience. I have found little of value in the popular music of our day which is why I embrace the independent artist. For the most part, they have something to say that is meaningful in my life. See what you think as you wander around and listen to some of the folks that I have tried to share over the last months with the showcase; and join us this Saturday at 6 EST to share in the joy of real music and not music constructed for sale to the masses. Thanks for all of your support of the independents.

Douglas, this is a great thing you do with your showcase and your songs I have to say your blog hit me right in the face! If it’s not the music, pure making music, listening and loving the music it normally shows more than not…most of us will never make a living at what we love to do although we do have the gift of loving what we do…and oh what a gift it is so often! Keep it going strong my friend…..thanks!

Hi Larry,
Thanks for weighing in so well on my blog here. What you say is so true. It is the music that counts as the reward.
