hello all.. FYI...I've recently moved my mixing space from a 30X30 room in the basement... to a 11X25 room upstairs... in case your un-aware... this is huge for a person used to listening in certain environments.. My ears are adjusting, but not without some footwork... I've been mixing the same song now for 3 days.. since I do hold down a day job as well... It's a tune for a client who happened to come through during the transition.. a song written by Beverly Higson of Brunswick GA....I'm using her tune to settle my ears into this space, and find out what it takes to get what I want out of the mixes..The song is called "somebody new", and it's in the player in a rough form, BUT!!.. I do have a new mix of it I will post this evening. I'm really pushing towards radio ready, and I believe I'll see that soon. I just have to jog back and forth between listening devices until I move all my other speakers into the space..what I have is pretty darn good... just a tad large for the player.. Thank God for USB technology in car stereos.. no waste there. I've jogged some cassettes around in the day...whew.. I haven't forgotten the old ways, and still keep that technology on hand, but I really love some of the little tools.. keep it real
Well... it's been a long run so far, and I'm finally able to have my own space to create in.. I recently acoustically treated an 11X25 ft room in the house, and moved all my recording gear out of the basement. I did leave the drums downstairs though... that's another project for another day soon.. I will have a live kit set up almost directly beneath me with really nice concrete floors, and hard walls.. I just need to frame in outer walls of what will become the drum room. Gonna be a huge drum sound when I'm done...Lots of work to do in that zone, but for now... I've just finished the space, and moved my vocal booth in. I'm still acclimating though. The acoustics are extremely different .. so... my mixes will likely change a tad as a result. The vocal booth has a laptop in it now for those who like to keep their lyric sheets in digital format, and it's pretty spacious... A large sectional couch nearly fills the center of the room.. so there's plenty of seating. I've already started taking projects again, and will likely see a huge influx of clientele over the next several months when people realize what a deal this they are getting... I'm really looking forward to doing a full band soon, and I plan to build more contraptions for that.. For now... it's all about helping the people I have scheduled.. until more come... and they will..
