Trevor McEvoy / Blog

NOT DEAD YET !!

In the dim distant past, I promised you I was working on my 10th album. That's still happening but I'm struggling with my first venture recording with computer software and I will need to call upon the expertise of my son, Darragh, at McEvoy Music Productions. Be patient and keep the faith...🎀🎧🎼🎹🎸🎸πŸ₯

Best Album Winner

Oh amazeballs!!! I've just discovered that I've won best Folk Rock / Singer Songwriter Album at the Akademia Awards in LA in April.

In their blurb they said "Trevor McEvoy blends first class songwriting, spare acoustic arrangements and flawless vocals to deliver 'Songs Of Unrequited Love', an honest and exceptional collection of folk rock songs that deliver on so many levels". Cheers guys !

PS what are "spare acoustic arrangements"? In Ireland that could mean any of a number of things...most of them bad😜

Re-mastered versions

I gave my crappy mixes to my son, Darragh, who is a master re-masterer and he has tried to make them sound half reasonable. But because I used archaic equipment he couldn't re-mix the songs...so he swore at me a lot instead....

ALBUM

I've been writing songs since 1971 for my own amusement. Now that father time is catching up on me, I figured I'd share some of it with whoever wants to listen...

I completed my 9th Album, "Mirrors & Smoke" in 2011/12 and am currently working on a 10th collection of songs with a Country Rock feel.

Most of the songs here are from "Mirrors & Smoke" but there are also a few representing each of the 5 previous decades !!

I don't (can't) use software or computers to record so you're getting some fairly raw mixes here, I'm afraid. Anyway, hopefully there's enough to give you a flavour of what I'm about...

For the record, I wrote all of the songs and performed all of the vocals and instrumentation with the exception of primary drum tracks which are courtesy of my Roland Juno G and my Yamaha keyboard.

Now that I've mentioned the keyboards, I probably should let all you anoraks out there know that I am playing Takamine and Taylor acoustic guitars. The electric guitars are Epiphone 335 Dot Cherry, Fender Tex Mex Strat plus Fender US Strat and a Vintage Bass. Vocal mic is a Rode NT1A and instrument mic is a Sennheiser 335s. The whole shooting match was recorded on either Korg D1600 or Korg D3200 direct-to-disc systems.

Quality seems to be better if you listen via headphones...just sayin' ...! Enjoy.
