Wes Dodson - ratbastard (1995-1998) / Blog

Jan Mundorff's Mouth

"To my ears, former-ratbastard frontman, Jan Mundorff, had a most distinct, hybrid-vocal styling. Looky here... try and imagine Oderus Urungus and Jello Biafra making sickly-sweet love in a pool of rancid pudding and soon after shitting out a tragically deformed alien trashcan baby sporting a multi-ethnic foot... That baby would talk the way Jan sings."

THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 05 JULY 1998

On this day in history, the core lineup of ratbastard would convene to record what would be their last two original tunes at Studio MBR, in Montgomery, Texas.

The trio laid down tracks for the blistering Jan Mundorff contribution, "Yo Momma", and a sterling offering from Shengar called "Dirty Dirty".

Unfortunately, the 8-track Tascam reel to reel recorder used to document these tracks fell into disrepair around the turn of the century, leaving these two gems to remain unreleased.

The songs were included in the Halloween Mega-Mash 1998 setlist, which would serve as the last public performance for the band.

Guitarist Wes Dodson noted, "I fondly reflect on those tracks, looking back in pride on how the musical offerings from Thomas and Jan had evolved into finely polished, yet filthy artistic statements."

Fine efforts indeed.
