Generally speaking, rock artists are highly dependent on relentless commitment and strong musical instincts to succeed in the market, and Danny Vash is well-positioned to excel in this regard. Now that the mesmerizing new radio single 'Highway Wars' is catching fire on radio, it's clear that we'll be hearing a lot more of Danny Vash. Perhaps that also explains why Danny Vash was the recipient of the prestigious Akademia Music Award for Best Rock Song on August 15, 2018. Reporter Lauren Scott recently caught up with Danny Vash to learn more about this intriguing artist and the inspiration behind what is clearly a captivating new sound.
LAUREN: Let's just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
DANNY VASH: I was opening for Robin Trower at the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque. Nobody was allowed to go backstage to Robin's room, it was secluded and private, there was security. I did a set of all original material. The crowd yelled for an encore and I got the ok to do one more song. I decided to do Voodoo Child. It brought a standing ovation from the audience and an overwhelming positive response. I was headed off stage down to my back stage room and Robin's stage manager approached me. He said Robin liked your Voodoo Child and said you are welcome to come meet him. He was always one of my favorites so to say the least I was soooooo excited to meet him. And to get a compliment from someone as accomplished as Robin was an honor for me.
LAUREN: Your song 'Highway Wars' is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
DANNY VASH: I thought the overall sound and production was just as good as anything that was playing on the radio. That's something you always put to the test when you are listening. Thanks to the studio and the producer (David Snow) the song sounds great. I am very pleased with the production and the sound.
LAUREN: What was the inspiration behind your radio single?
DANNY VASH: I used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area and commute to San Jose every day. The millions of people all commuting back and forth to work is a way of life in California. I like to write songs about things that everyday people can relate to in their every day life. Now we are in a new time and age where everyone has some kind of commute no matter where you live if it is near a major metropolitan area.
LAUREN: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the 'catalyst' or 'fuel' for your desire to create music?
DANNY VASH: I have been playing music since I was old enough to understand what it meant to me, and how it intrigued me to make this noise come from this thing and it's was musical and it sounded cool. I was 8 years old when I started playing the guitar.
LAUREN: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician?
DANNY VASH: I am passionate and dedicated. I feel a connection with music that can't be duplicated by anything else in life I have experienced yet.
