Sometimes the pro loses

*Clarification* (This blog entry in no way is a criticism of any particular genre of gospel music. It is simply an observation of two particular concerts.) I know, I know. It's been a while. Let's just say organization skills are not my strong suite. Had an interesting thing occur recently. I was able to attend two concerts in the same day. In the morning was a long time polished professional Southern Gospel group and the other was a regional college concert troupe. I noticed a few things. Now, I'm not bashing either one so don't think I am. Anyway, here are some things I observed. The SG group had tight harmonies, great songs and were very polished. Every line, every hand motion, every joke, every story was, well was polished. In fact this was my second time hearing them so I recognized them. It was a wonderful performance. And maybe that's the problem. It was a polished performance. There were "moments" of worship. The college troupe consisted of about 10 singers and 5 or 6 band members. They were not as polished. They sang amazingly together. Whether the audience worshipped with them or not, they did. And you could see in their eyes they were singing to The Lord. What's my take. Why the title "sometimes the pro loses"? Well, first of all the audience was constantly caught up in the college troupes service. There were amens, hallelujahs and praise Jesus' all over the auditorium throughout the service. I found myself shouting amen. I don't shout. I may say amen, but I don't shout. Surfing their service "we had church". It wasn't quite the same with the polished professional group. You see, it's not always how polished you are that brings fans on board. Maybe the heart is more important. What do you think?

Why Hello

Just wanted to say hey. Not sure why you're here. Not sure why I'm here. I am a songwriter. Not a professional. Retired from another job so I don't need to write to eat or survive. I applaud those who do. For me it's more of an artistic outlet. Oh it would be nice to be recognized in some fashion, to have someone sing your song. To get the ever elusive "cut". The way I have it figured, all my songs are number one hits, they just wont "hit" till I'm dead and gone so at least my kids will be provided for. Ha.......just kidding. Glad you stopped by. Say hello and stop in again every now and then. Thanks
