Oh my goodness!!! I am in SHOCK!! Today was a whirlwind of a day with lots of what I call "God Winks"! I just happened to be checking out the feed on FB when I saw the posting from the Bluebird announcing the "change" in the Open Mic format tonight and the opportunity to play your best song to try to win a guitar from Epiphone. I thought I might as well try!
When I got there, I swear there were at least 150 people in line and it went all the way down the alley. Soon they announced that you may get to play only if you had a stamp from a previous try. Even if you had a stamp, you were not guaranteed to play. Low and behold I had a stamp that I've carried in my wallet for about 4 years right behind my NSAI membership card!! So I was contestant #27 and I wasn't sure I was going to get to play but I stayed. They let 33 acts perform and I didn't really even hear 1 because there were a bunch of us standing outside and couldn't get in the door because it was packed!!
I had been talking to a couple of people from Canada who were feeling bad about standing in line for 3 1/2 hrs so I gave them each a CD. While they were asking me to sign them, another player was listening and said "They're announcing the winner!" BUT no one could hear so I asked if she heard and she said questioningly "Janice Gilbert?" - I started screaming "Oh My, that's ME!!!!"
Long story short - it was a crazy, crazy night and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be in this crazy, amazing, scratch-your-head, wonderful town!!
THANK YOU to THE BLUEBIRD CAFE, NSAI, and EPIPHONE GUITARS!!!
