Riding Shotgun with DBD for November 21st Hello, all! Glad to talk to you again. It’s been a while, but we’re keeping busy. The benefit gig we did for the Newville Little League did well—they made 9000 of the 13000 they needed at the time of the benefit (as per an update e-mailed me late September), without a few of the sponsors coming through yet. I’m sure they’ll be using new bleachers come next season. Next in the news, we have a gig this Saturday, November 26th, at the Riverside West Pub in Marysville! We were scheduled initially as doing an acoustic trio, but are pleased to be offering the full band, electric and such. Perfect post-Thanksgiving activity! Let me know, of course, if you wanna go but don’t know where it’s at. Or, use this link from Google: https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=riverside+pub+marysville+pa&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest In other great news, we’ve got a new tune mixed and uploaded to ReverbNation, a cover of the Buck Owens and The Beatles’ classic, “Act Naturally.” http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/song_details/10981784 You may notice our sonic imprint has been amped up a few notches from our previous demo batch. We improved our recording techniques, for more isolation. Combine that with a lot of time invested in the process and money invested in new microphones and software, along with a new recording computer, and there we have it. I’d like to especially thank Ron for his help with this, and Bob and Steve as well. This track is the first of the second tier songs to surface. With the third tier, tracks have been recorded, but I’ll wait to talk about that when I have something to show you. Originals are in the works, too, which we have copyrights registered on, and plan to have published. Special thanks goes out to our loved ones, our friends, fans, and family, who also sacrifice on our behalf. Greetings, all! “Double Barrel” Darrell here, lettin’ you in on the latest news. For today’s discussion, we have Comcast, Saturday events, recording progress and May 28th. Comcast is the latest internet service to block my Riding Shotgun. I’ve attempted to correct the situation, but their form seems to automatically throw me onto an apologetic failure screen. We’ll see if this smoothes out, but as of this writing, our last mailing didn’t get to those thirty-five people. This Saturday, much is going on. I’ve been enlisted to help Holiday Samz out with sound as they play a benefit at the Riverside in Marysville. I forget who the benefit is for, but I just remember it is for somebody who’s paralyzed. Also, over at HMAC, Hot Wing Jones (http://www.myspace.com/hotwingjones) is having their long-awaited CD’s release party (which I’ll be listening to in the very near future), also featuring Bret Alexander, Mycenea, and Tim Farley, plus musical guests playing with the band proper (everybody paying the $5 cover gets a copy of the CD, even). So, never claim I didn’t give you any options for things to do on Saturday night. I’ve built a new recording computer for us down in The Hawk’s Nest (Chikkin Wire’s practice den). It’s the first time I’ve assembled one from the ground up, and am pleased that it was basically flawless, except for a lack of wireless network reception. The recording is rock-steady, the interface’s monitoring program seems to be actually obeying me now, and we now have a lot of resources at our fingertips besides just a recording box. This computer, along with a PreSonus HP60 headphone amp, is going to allow us much cleaner recordings (and also get us more acclimatized to our in-ear rig, in a way), for we’ll be able to capture drums with virtually no bleed-through in the first pass and then come back and capture everything with better microphones (and, theoretically, less errors). Just letting you know that CW’s next gig will be on May 28th, at Lupfer’s Grove. It’s a benefit for the Perry County Fire Police Association, labeled a “Pork Roast.” We’ll be playing between 2pm and 6pm. It’s an outside park, so the whole family can come out for a change! Their whole shindig starts at 10am. They’re going to serve you open kettle ham bean soup (should that be capitalized?), roast pork dinners, and hot dogs for the little kiddies. Also, there are great claims of door prizes (hmmm…what door—oh, nevermind), money bowls, games for kids, and (I quote), “Ladies wearing a funny or funky looking hat win a prize.” You can’t beat that! Just know that to take quarts of the soup home, you need your own container—I think one is provided on a bowl-type quantity. I’m looking forward to it because a lot of my family doesn’t come out to the usual haunts where we honky tonk. If you need to eat kosher, there are probably vegetables, or at least potatoes. Hello, all you good people! “Double Barrel” Darrell here with the latest news. Among the more interesting of news would be that Chikkin Wire is playing at the Riverside in Marysville this coming Saturday, May 7th, at 9pm. We have a few new tunes we’ll be doing. We’re also settling on our artwork and getting ready for our next round of recording. From what I hear, it moves us up the ranks if we’re listened to on ReverbNation, whose link you’ll find below. Also, there’s an open mic starting up back at Mr. G’s Waterfront on Sundays, hosted by Carl Benke and Chris Hoon. Looks like it starts up at 7pm. Okay, here’s a bunch of links for you: http://www.facebook.com/doublebarreldarrell http://www.facebook.com/chikkinwire http://www.reverbnation.com/chikkinwire Later, DBD
Howdy, folks! We in Chikkin Wire had a great time at the Enola Legion this past Friday. Great crowd reaction, I was more used to my in-ears, etc. Thanks to all you out there that came on out. Kinda last minute news: Up Pops the Devil is at the Brewhouse Grille tonight (sorry this is so late, Dave!). Here's their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Up-Pops-the-Devil/308022838582?ref=ts Holiday Samz have their recordings all mixed up. Thank you, guys! It was great working with you. I'll be sure to let everybody here in Riding Shotgun know when you have your tunes uploaded (let me know if you need help with this). We'll be picking the winner of the Chikkin Wire logo contest this Wednesday. You've still got time to enter! The reward: pick a song for us to record! We enjoy even ridiculous ideas (artwork, or what songs we should do). As an aside, our next gig is on May 7th, at Riverside... Later, DBD http://www.facebook.com/DBDarrell http://www.facebook.com/ChikkinWire http://www.reverbnation.com/chikkinwire http://www.otherrandomsites.com
(A regular discussion put out by "Double Barrel" Darrell) Welcome, everyone! "Double Barrel" Darrell here, with some big announcements! Chikkin Wire now has a host of tunes for you to not only listen to, but also download. Simultaneous with this announcement is that I've set up a ReverbNation account for us, so you don't have to deal with FaceBook's deplorable music player [although, I do post the tunes there as well]. RevNat is going to open us up for some easy merch-type stuff down the road. To hear these twelve (count 'em--TWELVE!) tracks, click on over to http://www.reverbnation.com/chikkinwire and there they shall be. These are cover tunes, designed at getting us some gigs. So, feel free to stream the tunes, download them, burn them, and whatnot...and, heck, you can take them to joints you'd like to hear us play in. We're not too proud to accept a lil' help now and then. Our next gig is at the Holly Inn on the 1st of April. Discussion about the tunes: Ron did all the acoustic guitar, the pedal steel on one track, and most lead vocals; Bob did all the bass; Steve did all the drums (including cowbell overdub) and some background vocals; I'm responsible for whatever's left over (electric guitar (all tele except for one round of lead on "That's All Right"), a couple lead vocals, and the rest of the BGVs). All BGVs were overdubbed. "Folsom Prison Blues" was cut as you hear it, without any overdubs. Only the BGVs were overdubbed on "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way." The teasing track was only posted because I was really happy with how the drums sound. We recorded and mixed these ourselves, which may be somewhat apparent, but still, I think we've accomplished a lot, especially considering that we recorded these together in one room. Of course, feel free to post on our facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/chikkinwire ). We like to post video links to songs we like, movie clips, or who knows what, really. Later, DBD
Please, make copies. Distribute far and abroad. And, if you must, plead with club owners to book us.
Chikkin Wire has arrived on ReverbNation. Hip, hip, hurray.
