SO Chicago is going really well!! I just booked my first two gigs for July. This is what I have been waiting for. I am still trying to get a job teaching voice lessons, but summer seems to be a slow season for that. I will have to keep bothering music schools until they decide to bring me on board... hehe juuust kidding!
In my down time, Philip Anderson, my pianist who also happens to be my boyfriend, and I have been composing some jazz and blues originals. We are hoping to have five songs written and recorded by the fall. We have two so far. This is my first attempt at writing... and to be honest, it's not all that bad! ;) I am still struggling to create a band name.. ugh. Everything I make up either sounds silly or is already taken. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I have high hopes for this project. I think it is going to be really awesome!
Well, my puppy Evan has located my slipper (aka chew toy) and is now joyously frolicking throughout the apartment, so I should probably go join him...Play time!
Well, here I am! It is my final show in Akron, Ohio (well my last show for a while). We are having rehearsal at my boyfriend/pianists house before the show... We are going to pack a guitarist, bassist, drummer, singer, pianist and a 10 piece string ensemble in the living room! This is going to get crazy! On an emotional note, I am sad to leave the new musical project "Axon-Neuron" so abruptly. It's such a bittersweet moment! We began the project in March, thanks to Jeremey Poparad. He is the brains behind this entire operation. He wrote the music and lyrics for 8 amazing pieces. They are all so interesting, unpredictable and on top of that, fun to perform! Last week we recorded the album at "Tangerine," a local recording studio in Akron, Ohio. The album, "Brain Songs," is available for purchase at our show tonight. It is at Annabell's Bar and Lounge in Highland Square. The show starts at 8:30. There is NO COVER for the show and CDs are $10. There are 8 tracks which add up to over an hour of music!! I am going to savor every moment of tonight's performance! Being backed by a live string ensemble is going to be soo fantastic! =) P.S. I will post a song or two from the new album
On Monday May 16th Philip Anderson, our puppy Evan and I will be packing up our lives and moving to Chicago! The drive should be interesting to say the least. We've rented a 24 foot U-haul... yeah, we really have that much stuff! My goal is to get into the music scene in Chicago. There are so many more opportunities! It is a huge step, but a necessary one. I will keep you posted once we get settled :) In the mean time, check out "Fever" and "The Days of Wine and Roses." Philip Anderson is the pianist. Take care!
