About John Stano The trademark of singer/songwriter John Stano’s individual sound is a distinctive blend of acoustic guitar, harmonica and warm vocals, developed over many years of performance and study. John plays six string, twelve string and National steel guitar and harmonica. Initially self-taught, John eventually went on to study American fingerstyle guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of music and harmonica with national blues legend, Jim Liban. ‘Sing Out’ compared John’s music to early Bob Dylan while ‘Dirty Linen’ was reminded of Country Joe McDonald. His style could be described as acoustic folk-blues but John’s influences also include bluegrass, country, beat poetry and contemporary acoustic music. Two songs from John’s new CD Caribou Bar & Grill, ‘Soul Is’ and ’Pontiacs No More’ earned John the title of Big Top Chautauqua Songwriter of the Year Finalist for 2010. His song ‘From A Rusty Cadillac’ was featured on NPR’s Car Talk. www.johnstano.com

June 7, 2011 – Press Release – Roots Music Report Blues Internet Chart

Tweed Funk’s debut CD, ‘Bringin It’, has spent 4 weeks on the national Roots Music Report (RMR) Blues Internet Chart. The CD debuted on March 24th at #11 on the chart and over the last 3 weeks has been at #5, #9, and #6. The RMR Blues Internet Chart tracks the Top 50 albums weekly played over online stations. Tweed Funk’s CD has also been on the RMR State of Wisconsin Chart for 11 straight weeks including 6 weeks at #1. The band continues to receive great reviews from the Press and DJs on their debut CD: “Singer Smokey started out under Curtis Mayfield and demonstrates that he has a fine voice for soul and blues. The playing throughout is very good, especially the guitar of JD Optekar...I particularly enjoyed the more bluesy tunes such as “Super Mad Woman” and “Black Coffee” as well as “Salsa Blues”. The band has an excellent singer and strong instrumental players so I suspect that they would be worth seeing live when they come to your area. For those who like a good dose of funk mixed into their blues this CD is well worth checking out.” – John Mitchell, The Blues Blast Magazine About Tweed Funk Formed in the fall of 2010, Tweed Funk has quickly moved to the top of the local scene and gained recognition nationally with the release of their debut CD, ‘Bringin It’.
