Hey mate's! "How ya' going?" We're wrapping up our 2013 Ruthie Foster Family Band Australian tour this week with two more dates at the ever inviting venue, Live 'n Cookin' @ Lizotte's, in Kincumber Tuesday, 3/26, Central Coast and their Newcastle location on Wednesday 3/27. Then it's off to the Gold Coast to finish up with TWO dates at Byron Bay Bluesfest! Friday and Saturday 3/29-30. Our Friday show is at 12:45PM, and on Saturday night our set is at 7:30PM. Besides Ruthie, other amazing headliners include Carlos Santana, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Steve Miller Band, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Rufus Wainright, Wilco, Zac Brown Band, Joan Armitrading, Taj Mahal, and tons more. It's just a ridiculous line-up this year and I see that tix sales are at an all time high for this years Bluesfest. I'm ever grateful to be out playing with Ruthie and these phenomenally talented ladies; (drummer Samantha Banks, and Bassist Tanya Richardson). We have been having a blast, laughing hysterically, getting punchy', searching for late night eateries and meeting many new Ausie friends. The weather has been incredible, (sorry Minnesota friends and family), if I could blow some of this sunshine your way I would.
So far, we have been receiving a very warm reception from all our audiences in New Zealand, Port Fairy, Adelaide, Melbourne, Penrith, Canberra, Sydney and other points in between. Ruthie has been singing with her typical "universe busting" voice. The band has been cookin' with gas, and the grease is boiling in the pan. We're seeing very positive reviews in local papers such as The Sydney Herald. See what they said here:http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/music/a-monstrous-voice-gets-to-testifyin-20130324-2gnrz.html
Ruthie was the"top seller" in CD sales, selling over 500 units at the amazing and rootsie' Port Fairy Folk Festival. Listed here as the "stand out" performance of the festival. http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2013/03/11/3712966.htm The people here were the most well behaved, listening audience of 30,000 people I've ever witnessed. Such a kind gathering and warm vibes, wow. Gives me hope for humanity and general good will towards man, woman and hippie.
Well, I hope I haven't bored you with any of this. I am a bit stir crazy tonight on the road eagerly awaiting our final shows. Sitting here on our tour manager Lauren's macbook.
Scottie Miller Band dates resume in early April with a show at The Fieldhouse in Rochester, MN on April 12th and Spikes in Faribault on May 3rd. Well ya'll, it's been quite a week, after returning from two kick-ass shows with Ruthie Foster and The Family Band; (one in Door County,WI, the other in Bayfield, WI at Big Top Chataqua), i played 3 shows this past weekend; 318 Cafe in Excelsior was a blast! The place was jam packed, and I hung with so many great friends, some old, some new. Friends Mary Jan Alm, and Gwen Matthews came out for the show. It was great to talk with them, and was reminded of Mary jane Alm's CD release coming up on August 12th at The Loring Theater in Mpls! 9See ya there!!!)
Then, I got a last minute call from Lowell Pickett, and Craig Eichorn from The Dakota Jazz Club, asking "what cha doin' Saturday night?"...I'm like, "whatever you want me to"...so I get the offer to open for Ray Manzarek, and Roy Rogers! I was elated to perform in front of these two legends, and was grateful to meet both of them and trade CD's. During the second song, Ray Manzarek's keyboard patch got screwed up, so reluctantly, I jumped up on the stage yet again, to help try and fix the patch back to a simple grand piano. it worked, luckily for me, and the sold out crowd was pleased. Ray turned back and said to me, "Ya MAN!" (a moment I shall cherish the rest of my days). "Crystal Ship", I mean shit man, c'mon, Ray is such an influence on my playing and The Doors were a huge part of my growing up. Roy Rogers smoked that guitar like a cuban, it was a great night all around. Met a lot of new faces that night at The Dakota too. (My favorite venue in the twin-cites).
Sunday night was my final gig of the weekend, and one I look forward to every year for the past 9-10 years; The Northern Vineyards winery in beautiful downtown Stillwater, MN. Way up high on the patio, overlooking the gorgeous St Croix River. Awesome folks, and intense heat and humidity made for a sweaty and delicious night of music and friendship. I even met a new friend who was referred to come see me from somebody I met while on tour in Western Australia not too long ago! Holy moly! Also, met a guy who saw us with Ruthie Foster, way over and up in Willits-Northen California (Laytonville), at the Kate Wolf Memorial Festival. Dam, small world i tell ya. I hope it keeps shrinkin'
Please stay tuned for more shows, and new merchandise coming soon. Always available at http://www.scottiemiller.com
