DJs in the Industry

Hello everyone,

I am writing tonight because I am bothered by how the "Industry" treats female deejays. We are "overlooked and underpaid."

Some people feel that we don't have what it takes to headline parties. I say, "That's a lie!"

I say that we are just as good, if NOT better than our counterparts. I say that promoters, as well as fellow deejays alike should respect our "gansta" and give credit where credit is due.

Some say, "That dues need to be paid before you can be recognized as a reputable deejay." I say, "That's some BS!" I have been doing this a long time. I feel I've paid these "so-called" dues.

I want and need to take my place in society as a "reputable" deejay, and I want to play with the "Best of the Best." I want to be remembered as the female deejay that worked to change how house music is viewed and played in Chicago.

Chicago has lost it's spark, and it's going to take a lot to get it back. However, we won't succeed as long as we have deejays and promoters alike that won't give the "newer" deejays a chance. It won't happen if people are not willing to change from the days of old.

House music is NOT like it was 20+ years ago. Some of us are caught in a "Time Warp," and don't know how to move on. If things keep going the way they are, we are going to be attending "Vegas" style parties wondering why in the hell did we allow this...

We are allowing this through people that won't and don't accept change for what it is...Change is INEVITABLE...and either we change with the times or time will pass us by and you will be a lost soul in the midst of the things to come.

Chicago, was at the top at one point for "house" music, and now we are at the bottom of the barrel. If we don't change how we play as deejays, and how we promote and pay our deejays, Chicago will remain dead in the years to come.

I'm all for change, and I will play ANY new GOOD sounding music that captivates me and the people that I play for.
