I don't claim to be an artist with vocal chops. I love to write though and am looking for singers and or bands who would like to do any of my songs. So shoot me an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to record any of my songs. Dave Byers http://davebyersmusic.com http://dcmusicstore.com
Stage presence As singers and musicians we are typically wrapped up in the performance. We often strive to play and sing every night just as well as possible. The problem is many of us miss the stage presence side of the performance. I've done sound for bands and watched them setup and then just start playing. They were completely absorbed into themselves. They continued 6 songs into their first set before even uttering anything to the crowd. Even then it was a "this next songs is by..." comment. By then the crowd was completely tuned out. What all is expected of us as a singer or musician? Aren't we mainly supposed to get up there and nail the notes? Well that certainly helps but are you going to nail them any better than the original recording or a recording of your song if it's original? What's the point? They might as well have hired a DJ then right? You’ve adding nothing to the show if that's all you’re doing. Some years back was doing sound at another festival and a young band gets on stage. The lead guitarist was a younger fellow about 18 and he was just killing some Stevie Ray Vaughan. I mean he obviously spent a ton of time working on these riffs and sounded so much like the Stevie recordings that fill my ipod. But he stood there like a mic stand the entire time. Same drab look on his face looking down at his guitar. Never said a word, no movements... nothing. So I approached him afterwards telling him how well he played. I said the problem is though I could have just played those songs from the mixer and they would have sounded the same. He looked at me oddly. I said you've seen some concert videos of Stevie right? He said yes. I said go home tonight and watch some more and also watch Jimi Hendrix who was Stevie's idol. Those two put on a show. As well as you played the crowd tuned you out cause you just stood there motionless. Stevie was making crazy faces, wailing his arms, banging his guitar and talking to the crowd. Jimi did the same thing. It wasn't them in the bedroom it was them jamming for you and putting on a show. A show that left you knowing this guy felt every note that was screaming out of his guitar. The young guitarist mentioned that he was a bit backward and shy. I said many guitarists are but when you get paid to put on a show it's not about you anymore. You’re being paid to put on a show. You want to decide if you feel like playing for $40 a show or if you want to move past the wanna be's and become a true professional. I said if you play as good as you play AND you put on a show nothing can stop you. Otherwise your lack of showmanship will strangle you and this will only be a hobby for you. This sadly is the case for the vast majority of local bands in most areas. We've been over-run by dj's because we provide nothing more. 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Ephesians 6:10 -18 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. ------------------------------------------------ In God we are victorious. That's what this CD is about. Resisting the devil and his schemes and confessing and holding to God's truths. Living for His glory and by His strength. One of my songs is called "I cling to Jesus." I think of this verse: John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." So when the world tries to weigh you down and life seems to hard cling to Jesus. He will make a way and take care of you. He always has for me and that's why I praise Him. He is real. There is none like Him. Cling to Jesus and "in Him" be victorious. Don't listen to the lies of the devil. Hold to the truths of God and immerse yourself and your life in prayer and in God's word. God bless, Dave
