So you noticed that every song on my page is not a blues song, but I'm still labeled blues. You gotta say "Whassup wi' dat?". Some folks are really offended by it. I actually lost an important gig once because the chairman of the festival said I wasn't blues enough. Now, there's a blues song. It's kind of a "Damned no matter" situation. Some of the folks I work with in Nashville won't let me sing my own country songs 'cause my voice is too blues/soulful. In fact, once singing a song for a teacher, I was stopped after the 2nd line and told I would never be a country writer. He couldn't get past the sound of my voice. See, I'm a songwriter or the story writer first and then I am the story teller. I have to look at the audience I have at the moment and tell the story as the audience relates to it. Of course, some stories I really like to tell and tell 'em in my own way.
