My Kickstarter

Just to give everybody an idea of what I'm going through. About 5 years ago, I signed with a "Label" called tribe muzik. Ya it’s supposed to be misspelled. This label is one of the most poorly run, out of touch excuse for a business. Sometimes months would go by and I wouldn't be able to get a response to any phone call, email etc. I was lied to about their connections, financial investments, credentials and so much more. They basically wasted so much of my time and money. I figured they went under since I haven't heard anything from them in a long time, but apparently they don't like that I am doing their job by creating my own website, recording my own videos, doing my own PR, booking my own shows, paying for everything like photos and merchandise. Yet these pricks have the audacity to tell me that I have no right to do this with music that I wrote, own, played most instruments and paid for the manufacturing and distribution. They sent a cease and desist letter to kickstarter claiming I have no right raise money for my own music. It should be back up soon though..... seems I may have to go to court. What a nightmare.

You can scour the web for advice on how to build yo ur fan base to become more successful.... Sure enough, most paths explain how important it is to keep up with current social media. Tweeting, Re-tweeting, Blogging, Liking, Updating.etc....All in an age where labels don't really exist amongst the land of the indie, nor should they. But again, I find myself buried beneath the mental strife of juggling so many social networking sites to merely avoid drowning in this new Orwellian utopia that so many "musicians" are savvy at. I'm not trying to hate. It’s a guilty pleasure, an endless marketing tool, but god damn it, I'm a musician. There is a reason why musicians worked so well with over-achieving, tone-deaf, greedy, label sharks that backed em from the start. Our brains are just wired differently. I mean, could you visualize a young Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) spending hours checking to see how many village social ladder climbers "liked" that new pic he posted with that adorably ironic hat? Or try to Imagine John Lennon (no pun intended) taking a break from writing that brilliant song because he feels obligated to tweet about some stupid hat that he saw Bob Dylan wear. I'm just going to finalize it with a rhetorical question. "How much great music do you think we are missing out on?" because apparently, these days, music quality doesn't matter, it’s all branding and marketing. Well this works great for those bands who are kind of passionate about music but whose true talent is public relations. So how are we finding those next big things? Well, I hope the next Cobain figures out how swim in the deep end while still having time to write that next "holy shit, I wish I wrote that"
