The Only One (Oh, baby, yeah...)

For those of you out there that are familiar with Lucid 8 and our music, you know that our musical style/sound is unique to say the least--because hey, let’s face it, there’s nobody else out there that sounds quite like us. Believe us, we’ve checked. Anyhow, we cover a wide range of musical genres (Rock, Soft Rock/Pop, Heavy Metal/Progressive, and Southern Blues) and have an abundance of musical influences including: Def Leppard, Queensryche, The Black Crowes, Train, and many more. There’s even a little bit of a Surfer/Ska sound mixed in there for good measure. Track number 8 on our album “Idle Revolution” is proof of that. It is titled “The Only One” and it barely made it on the album. Needless to say, there was quite a bit of back and forth on this one. Did it fit with the rest of the songs? Will our fans like it, or was it just too different? Well, we wanted answers to these questions, so we held a focus group before the album was released and discovered that it was actually one of the more popular songs! People were responding to it! With its upbeat tempo at 170 BPMs (beats per minute) and barbershop quartet-like harmonies, it scored a high 8.5-10 out of 10 across the board, so… we finally decided to just go ahead and put it on the album. However, there is a little bit of back story to this song. It was actually the first song that singer Eddy and drummer Jonny ever wrote together. Also, it was secretly recorded one weekend while Eddy was on vacation in California, and, he wasn’t too happy to find out that it was recorded without his knowledge because he made it known from the beginning that he wasn’t too fond of the song, so… there’s that. Anyway, he ultimately agreed to sing it and during his vocal session he was asked to add a bit more vocal flare during the reprise chorus. He was joking, of course, but he sang over and over again the words: “Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah…” After listening to the play back, we had a good laugh about it. In fact, for the longest time, the very last “Oh, baby, yeah” as well as the giggle at the end, remained a part of the song. Before the album was released though there were a few final tweaks made to the song and that part was eventually removed. However, we have in our possession the “Oh, baby, yeah” version and you can take a listen by clicking the link below. If you like the song you can find the album version on the “Idle Revolution” album on Amazon, iTunes, or on our website (www.lucid8.net). http://artcitysound.com/clients/Lucid_8/The_Only_One_alternate.mp3 “Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah… Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah… Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah… Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah… Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah… Oh, baby, yeah. Oh, baby, yeah…”

SLC Blues

Oh where, oh where can our bass player be? Oh where, oh where can she or he be? Lucid 8 has been through a few ups and downs, just like any rock band out there, but this blows! For the most part we have been steady as she goes. Andy, Iann, Jonny, and Eddy have gotten along very well and have never really had any drama, or arguments, and have always been very good to each other. But this bass player issue that we continue to face is a lil' frustrating. After Rob left we found ourselves down and out, and we all thought about just throwing in the towel. We have so many great albums in us. I feel we will bounce back and find our fit for a bass player and continue to write and record our music which is evolving with each song and each recording. We are gaining fans by the hundreds and are making a name for ourselves. Thank you to all our fans and friends for your support and listening to our music which we would love to hear on the radio someday. I'm going to keep believing in this dream. Why would God give me a voice if I don't use it! SLC Blues Eddy Williams Dont worry, boys, this is our LIFELINE. If we look deep inside, we will find all of the colors, that shine so brightly shining for all, for all times...

Lucid 8, Queensryche, PCTV, and More!

It's been a while since the last blog, so we have a lot of catching up to do. First things first, Lucid 8 has had some major gigs recently and has several more coming up in the near future. First, we had the great opportunity to open for Royal Bliss and Queensryche during the MDA ride for muscular dystrophy. We were very happy to participate in such a great cause to help raise money for all the kids who struggle with this disease. We are also happy to announce that we helped raise $225.00 by auctioning off one of our Idle Revolution CDs and a signed poster of the band! Second, we are going to be featured on Park City TV's show "Mountain Views" tomorrow night (July 1st) at 6pm, so be sure to tune in for that! And finally, we will be participating in the July 4th Sugar House Firework Show Celebration at 5pm. As you can see we have no intention of slowing down any time soon. There will also be plenty of opportunities to see Lucid 8 perform live and we hope to offer many more opportunities at the end of this summer as we are planning on hitting the road! That's it for now, but keep checking back in with us often to see where we will be playing next. We hope to see you there! www.lucid8.net

Up, Up, Up...

Our new album "Idle Revolution" has been released to the world and so far we have been getting very positive reactions! We sold nearly all of our physical CDs from the first run of 100 within the first week and have ordered a second run of 500. Our first single "The Truth" is currently in the regular rotation on Point Radio in Italy. Our song was also featured on Mag Blog Radio and we have seen our fan base increase significantly. With every step we take, we keep moving up, up, up... so, let's hope that trend continues! We also have some major shows coming up in the near future opening for national acts. And, finally, thank you to all our fans out there who believe in us and our music. Here's what a few of you have been saying about our music:

"Great, powerful guitar... I really wanted to get up and jump around... his voice has a 'shadowy' sound to it, which gives it richness, depth, and power... this has so much 'kick' and energy... great overall! Great power, great vocals, great message!"

"Heavy metal excellence... knockout stuff that suggests melody... the progression is good... grand designs, playful... a sprawling beautiful, brain belch of an album."

"The melodies are fantastic and the artist's vocal ability is magnificent, very strong and powerful with a lot more potential to come! The lyrics are very clear and crisp to hear. This artist is very talented and has huge ability and potential."

The Idle Revolution Begins in 7 Days!

After 10 months of writing, re-writing and recording our new album "Idle Revolution", we can finally officially say it is now out of our hands and just 7 days away until it drops and becomes available for download on all popular online media outlets! We will also have physical copies available through our website (www.lucid8.net).

A lot of work goes into a project like this and it wouldn't be possible without the help of all the many people who offered their services. So, we want to take a minute and thank all of those who contributed to making this album what it is. First, we want to thank Kent Rigby, the Executive Director of Midnight Records, for signing us to his label and believing in us and our music! We also want to thank Jason Jones, Owner and Operator of Art City Sound, who did a fantastic job engineering and mixing the album. To Terrance DH @ DH Audio Services for doing the final master. We must also give thanks to Mary Jones who took our band photos for the album, Rob Wilburn (our new bassist) for designing the cover art, Kim Baack for doing the final layout design, and to Kim K. Jones (our manager) for all her support over the years. We can't forget to thank Evan Snyder and George Jensen for all the hard work they put in while they were with us. And to our former bass player, Steven G. Simmons, for his memorable bass lines on the album. And of course a very special thanks goes to all of our family members, friends, and fans... without you, this wouldn't be possible.

Thank you! And remember, in just 7 days the Idle Revolution begins! And it's going to ROCK!

New Album Update

There have been a few new developments with regards to our new album, "Idle Revolution". After previewing the album with the record label, some decisions were made to allow for a proper promotional period as well as all the logistics that are inherent when releasing an album (publishing/distribution, etc.). First, the release date has been changed. Instead of April 5th, our new official release date is May 6th! It will be available on all the various online media sites and we will have a CD Release Party that weekend (May 10th) in Salt Lake City as well as an all ages event somewhere in Utah Valley soon after. Second, we have decided on the art work for the album cover and will be revealing that in just a few days, so keep an eye out for that. And finally, we will be shooting a music video for our first single in the coming weeks and will be sharing it with you ASAP. Thanks, and remember... the Idle Revolution is coming!

That's a Wrap!

We did it! We finally finished album #3, which we've decided will be titled “Idle Revolution”, and officially released on April 5th 2014 - just 28 days away! Last night Eddy finished putting the final touches on the last song and it sounds amazing! Needless to say, we are extremely proud of this album! We are at the final stage now which means it’s time to hand the album over to the record label for copyright/publishing, cover design and replication, and then distribution. Bye the way, we will be having a cover reveal in just a couple of weeks, so stay tuned for that. There will also be a CD release party soon after the album comes out and you won’t want to miss it! And finally, thanks to all those who attended our focus groups and voiced their opinions in order to help our songs be the very best they can be. You were crucial in helping us achieve our goal. Thank you!

The Final Countdown Begins

Lucid 8’s new album is somewhere between 95%-98% complete and we couldn't be happier with the way it’s turning out! We had the opportunity to sit and listen to it (and critique it) for the first time last weekend, and we think it’s safe to say… it ROCKS! There are 10 new songs, each one unique to say the least. We feel this album is our best work and that we finally found our signature sound. We poured every ounce of our souls into this album and we hope that will be evident the second you hit play and that first chord pierces your ear drums. This album is not just another compilation of songs; this album has something to say. It evokes emotion, it inspires, it motivates people to stand up for what they believe in, and much more. It’s been a long journey--9 months to be exact--but despite all the unforeseeable and often unavoidable conflict that arises when taking on a project of this magnitude, we can honestly say it’s all been worth it! We had our first drum tracking session back in June of 2013 and will have our final mixing session on Monday, March 3rd. And on March 8th we hand it over to the record label for final mastering and packaging. And on April 5th you can have it in your hands, in your car stereo, or on your computer. Trust us… this is one album you’re going to want in your collection!

Lucid Lyrics

Have you ever wondered where bands get the inspiration for their song lyrics? Well, so have we. Lyric writing is probably the hardest part of song composition. Sometimes the lyrics are written before the music, but in an ideal world, music should come first so you can then fit the words with the melody; however, there can and always will be exceptions. In our opinion, the lyrics are the soul and should be poetic, meaningful, and when applicable, kept as ambiguous as possible. There are songs that are personal in nature and need to be specific in order to give the song/story justice, but it’s usually best for the listener to be able put himself or herself into the story so that the song becomes relate-able. Here are some examples from our upcoming album. The first is a lyric from “Dune Chick” written by our guitarist Iann L. Murray:

“Rabbit kisses take my fears away. I was living for the past now I’m living for today. Window pane, my soul, for all the world to see. Rabbit kisses well they set me… they set me free.”

Here’s another example. These lyrics were written one line at a time over a period of six months. This is from the song “Idle Revolution” by Jonny Craddock:

“In a world that's hearing impaired, the blind will lead the blind. In a world far beyond repair, we find the curse of the wayward mind. Everyone flaunts opinions, backed only by hearsay. Complaints will be disregarded; verbal warfare is child’s play. Verbal warfare is child’s play.”

With just 2 songs that still need vocals (which, by the way, are still in need of that perfect lyric) the excitement and anticipation for this album grows exponentially. We are looking at a release date somewhere in the vicinity of April 4th or 5th and really hope that we can complete this album in time. We love it and we hope that you will, too! Lyrics and all!

Almost There!

Lucid 8's new album is almost done! We need to finish tracking the vocals for just 3 more songs and then it will be ready for mixing and mastering! Our goal is to have it available at the beginning of April. This album, we think - but don't take our word for it, is by far the most musically creative and the most technically minded album yet. The raw energy contained in these tracks is infectious to say the least. The tracks are somewhat eclectic due to the fact that they all could be categorized in different genres, but somehow, they manage to remain somewhat cohesive as an entire album. We look forward to sharing it with you and hope you are as excited as we are!
