Played Chicago 3 tims now, Festival of the Arts in Grand Rapids was a HUGE success despite the early slot, West Michigan PRIDE was even better, The Black Cat Bone Blues BBQ went fantastic, and TipTop Deluxe keeps showing us love.... and we still have a huge show at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company in August! Mike Cook just sent the 10 tracks for consideration on the upcoming disc... giving them a spin tonite and have a little band powwow to decide what tracks make the grade....
Mark came back on bass after a year or so gone... Judge graduated to gitbox witha wah-wah... last night we worked on new material as a "new" band (minus Jewly cuz of work issues) and it was interesting... new possibilites are exciting...we are getting geared up for some serious summer shows now!

Two shows in Chicago this past weekend kept us pretty busy. The Green Room @ The Abbey was a nice intimate little bar, just the right size for a low volume band like us. The response from the crowd was wonderful, very friendly, very supportive. ... The Blue Bayou was our show saturday night, nice bar in a nice neighborhood. Word from our friends in town was that it was a quiet side of town, and that quickly proved to be true. The audience was receptive to our sound, one guy even gave us $20 because he liked our sound! Overall the trip was fun, and mildly successful. We learned a few things about our sound, and it was good for the band to see what it was like to have to improvise when technical difficulties struck.
after a few sessions of toying with the mics, adding in some stompboard percussion (including one that uses gold 1968 silverware in a ziploc bag!) and dialing us in nice and tight, we have finally finished up laying down tracks and are moving on to mixing it all down proper! Can't wait to print the 10 tracks we have into a real cd... details coming soon
"new" myspace... not so sure, but it coulda been cool if it had come sooner... now it seems like a graveyard, sorta Google+ to me...Since Facebook sucks voraciously, we started a Black Cat Bone myspace to see what happens... only time will tell... https://new.myspace.com/blackcatbone.gr
In addition to fabricating an effective, if not crappy, porchboard stompbox using vintage silverware to get that hi-hat sound I wanted... I have invented a little bass box thats pretty gruesome! Just in time to record tomorrow!
Tonite we head into the studio with engineer Michael Cook at the controls... he has creatively mic'd us very well. Last week he didn't even blink when Scott brought in an old window frame with flimsy laminate flooring nailed on and a bag of old silverware thrown on top to be the "rhythm section".... he just pulled out the best mic for the job and mixed her down proper!
Judge and Scott and Muddy gathered in the studio this week to set up things ...laid down a few scratch tracks, and liked what they heard... next week they start laying down something more solid!
well after a ton of stop start stop activity (mostly stop) over the last year, Black Cat Bone goes into the studio this month and starts laying down tracks to see what sticks... starting to book a few shows for 2013 and see what happens... maybe a trip to Memphis or elsewhere in our short term future????
