Nationwide Hip Hop Writing Workshop Tour!

The Project: Speaker Minds has not only found it effective, but enjoyable to incorporate community activism with our musical events. Through the month of November, our band was granted the opportunity to tour several inner city High Schools in the greater Portland, OR area, performing and hosting writing workshops through Open Meadow's Step Up Program. As positive and socially conscious lyricists, we feel it is important to act upon the messages we relay, so we plan to record our EP entitled "Speaker Your Mind", then rent a van and tour across the Country for 3 - 4 weeks hosting musical writing workshops at High Schools/Community Centers during the day, and promoting our EP by performing at venues during the night. These musical writing workshops provide an outlet for Teenagers to share their thoughts through the beautiful art form that is music by interracting with live musicians, learning how to brainstorm their ideas, expression, and lyrics through guidance and worksheets, then they are given the chance to showcase their masterpiece to an audience. We plan to provide our services to at least 15 different cities along our journey across the United States, so not only could we use your assistance in funding our trip, but we would greatly appreciate you spreading the word in your city/town about our cause to better our chances in booking more workshops and shows! All the money we raise will go towards renting a van and paying for transportation and lodging, as well as help pay for studio time, CD pressing, and purchasing any materials that some schools/community centers may not be able to provide to make the workshops a success. We've noticed the budget cuts in a lot inner city schools that have resulted in a loss of after-school programs and other outlets that kids use to stay out of trouble. Speaker Minds is also aware of the lack of positive role models in the urban community, so we plan to make this an annual tour to help guide teens all across the nation onto a positive path in a world over saturated with negativity! What We Need From You!: We need your support in making this project come true! All we ask is you pledge a minimum of $1 towards our cause, you will not be charged until March 5th, 2011 (Our Deadline) and thats only if we reach our minimum goal of $1500.
