Here is a question that everyone I know is asking. Where are people getting their music these days? Are they downloading, shopping at Walmart, going to the local "dimple" or other ma/pa record stores? Are they buying a service or do the simply buy single on itunes? It's the question that all music makers want to know.... are we providing music that may never be consumed unless we are on a music streaming service? I think that's the question we all want to know? I read a recent report showing the rise in popularity of the music streaming services which accounted for the recent drop off of music piracy claims. The news seems to be good for the music makers of the world. There is a demand and there is a clientel out there looking for great new music but what isn't clear is how the music is going to be consumed by the general music listener. The recent purchase of Beats Audio seems to be more about the music streaming services they built and less about the dynamic and "quite awesome" headphones they have built. I know there is a battle brewing that is being headed up by Paul Williams from ASCAP and he is fighting for our rights as music makers to help the music makers/writers and performers around the world continue to make a living developing their music craft. We are hoping this year or next year will bring about some great new changes in the pay structure and we are hopeful the revenue streams will increase in numbers and in profitability for all of us who write and create music.
