DRUMHAND / Blog

A Busy June

Following a rain-repelling afternoon of raucous Percussion-Dance-Jazz (and dance people did!) at Kensington’s 1st Pedestrian Sunday of the year, DRUMHAND is very excited to launch hands-first into the vast Ontario wilderness mapping new territory and extending the frontiers of their music. Some video from the Car-free Kensington show can be seen here:

As diverse as their compositions and instrumentation are the settings in which DRUMHAND can be seen and heard (and danced to) this month. Their live act is equally at home and complementary in schools, nightclubs, cafés, parks, festivals, train stations and... at 'clothing-optional' venues...

June 2011 is our busiest month to date, please check in for up-dates.

April Thinking and drool...

A very merry Spring to you all!

And, with the arrival of spring comes the arrival of more music. DRUMHAND has been hard at work developing a fresh crop of new material specially designed for standing still and thinking. March was secretly a fruitful month for Toronto’s PERCUSSION DANCE JAZZ ORCHESTRA. A long-anticipated photo-shoot with, New York photographer, Zuzana Hudackova, elicited a wealth of new visual stimuli with which DRUMHAND fans and devotees can now ogle and drool over.

March News

February was another busy month for Toronto's Percussion-Jazz Dance Orchestra.

If you had been one of the fortunate in attendance at one of our recent concerts, you may have witnessed which if the following?

A) DRUMHAND playing for SUPER BOWL SUNDAY festivities at the EMMET RAY in full protective gear...

B) Performing for Iniké's Diaspora kick-off concert at York University featuring such esteemed musicians as Amara Kante, Mbemba Bangoura, and Samba Squad. A fantastic evening of percussion-based music from around the world (was also a special treat to get to use Beatle's-style vintage sound equipment!)...

C) A rollicking good time at Irene’s Pub in Ottawa with special guest appearances from members of local dance/drumming troupe, Rattling Tro Tro (some were apparently breaking anti-barefoot dancing legislation)...

D) Icicles forming on trumpets and saxophones (and egos) at Mel Lastman Square where DRUMHAND entertained hundreds of keen skaters from the eagles-view vantage point of a snow-covered stage on 'Family Day' in -22°C weather... yes that was snow-covered stage...

E) All of the above?
