Hometown: North Hampton, NH
Sounds Like: My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, The Beatles, Phish, Wilco
In the summer of 2011, Old Abode joined forces with Grammy nominated producer Francisco Santos to record their debut album, "Before the Day".
Before the Day is the work of a young band with a fresh-cut sound. Known for their energetic live shows, (and sometimes non-stop three hour sets) Old Abode delivers their live show presence, colorful harmonies, and clever dynamics wholly to Before the Day.
Press reviews have called Before the Day "a highly satisfying debut" and a "refreshing dose of modern pop-rock" (the Wire) with "Cascading guitars and energetic riffs ... epic guitar solos ...[and] a capable and pleasant-sounding vocalist." (the Deli Magazine). They have been compared to My Morning Jacket, Wilco, and Band of Horses.
"Before the Day" is available at Bull Moose Music stores and on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Rhapsody, and a number of other outlets. Visit www.old-abode.com to connect with the band on facebook, twitter, and reverbnation.
“Cascading guitars and energetic riffs introduce the title track of Before the Day, the ten-song album from Old Abode, a band hailing from North Hampton, New Hampshire. The album’s overall sound is smooth pop-rock, and the overall vibe is uplifting and peaceful. Singer Shea Ellis is a capable vocalist, and his guitar work is eloquent throughout.
The band cite The Beatles as well as My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses as some of their biggest influences, but while they identify themselves as an indie rock group, they prove to have an affinity for a diverse set of musical styles: bluegrass twang, epic guitar solos, and even a cameo by the mandolin”
Sarah Ruggiero - The Deli Magazine
“With their debut album, Hampton-based trio Old Abode brings a refreshing gust of indie rock to the Seacoast. Their style borrows from some of the best of the genre, including My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses and Wilco. But “Before the Day” also helps establish the group’s own identifiable voice.
The album opens with the title track, an upbeat number anchored around a resonant guitar lick and introducing lead singer/guitarist Shea Ellis’s distinctive vocals. It’s a good leadoff choice, jolting the disc into action with a refreshing dose of modern pop-rock .. .Drummer Graham Duval and bassist Glen Coburn deftly stress and syncopate the beat to complement Ellis’s consistently solid guitar playing and singing... It’s a highly satisfying debut from a promising local band.
"...Before the Day, a fine new disc by the rootsy band Old Abode..."
Michael Witthaus - The Hippo
““Before the Day” by Old Abode—This Hampton-based trio earned its keep in the Seacoast scene with a debut album loaded with quality rock songs, echoing indie paragons like Wilco and My Morning Jacket.”
““Before the Day” sounds amazing! They are great guys and their music is out of this world!"”
