More About Domenica Fossati

Brooklyn-based flutist, Domenica Fossati, is a classically trained, contemporary-minded performer, recording artist, and educator. A truly eclectic musician, Ms. Fossati is influenced by a wide range of musical styles and can be found working not just in the realm of classical and contemporary music but also of popular folk, world, jazz, rock, and hip-hop.

As an active freelancer, she has performed in major venues throughout New York City including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Joe’s Pub, The Knitting Factory, and The Stone; working with notable composers including Robert Dick, Harvey Sollberger, and Michael Gordon. Alongside her extensive experience in the classical realm, Domenica has worked and shared the stage with some of the leading players in jazz and popular music including Kenny Werner, members of TV on the Radio, Antibalas, and Femi Kuti. An advocate for fusing contemporary techniques within the pop and world music genres, Domenica collaborates as the frontman of the afrobeat ensemble, Underground System, a multicultural group that takes the extremely diverse yet male dominated afrobeat scene one step further as one of the only afrobeat bands around to exclusively feature a female frontperson. She is also a member of The Fu-Arkist-Ra (led by Amayo of the nationally acclaimed Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra), the classic vocal roots ensemble Medicine Woman, the latin groove influenced Los Abrazos Orchestra, and the indie rock group The City and Horses, whose music has been featured in commercials and motion picture, "Paper Hearts" staring Michael Cera. All of which are ensembles whose music blurs the genre lines for an eclectic sonic mix. In addition, Domenica frequently appears as a guest artist with TRANSIT

Ms. Fossati earned her MFA at New York University with Robert Dick, where she also served as adjunct faculty, teaching private flute lessons and coaching university chamber music groups. Her other teachers include Elizabeth McNutt, Terri Sundberg and David Pietro. In addition, she has taken classes with Keith Underwood, Roberto Fabricciani and Jeanne Baxtresser.

She has a private studio in Brooklyn and is currently a faculty member of
In the Pocket NYC. For booking, recordings, and lessons, please contact domenica.fossati@gmail.com
